If I am Washington, I defy do not want to move that 2025 first, especially since its a deeper draft, and with how things could go, this could be a top 10 maybe even top 5 pick, you don't know,

If you want Zegras, the offer starts with Leonard, or Verbeek doesn't bother hearing the end of it.

Tampa declines. They reportedly looked into Dowd and thought the price was much too high(as did apparently any other team that inquired on him).

You'd be crying in your beer when or if Zegras gets traded and it's for less than your expectations.

Well Dowd is injured so this deadline was a bust to move him and next year his value will probably be lower but than again Monahan got traded for a 1st Rd pick, so you never know.

"You weren't actively shopping him, but were teams calling on (Trevor Zegras) near the deadline?

No, they were not. Zegras is hurt. It's a situation there that everybody is speculating on that. We want Z to play with us. Hopefully, he can get through this injury pretty quickly and get him back on the ice."

-Verbeek interview with Jason Parkhurst of USA Today sports.

He wasn't shopped, Verbeek is not interested in moving him, and there is not one, but two comps of a player with Zegras's pedigree (although lesser in both cases) went for a quality piece in a hockey trade.

Only quality piece WSH has is Leonard as the base of the trade, WSH would of course be adding to that.

Tampa doesn't need a C, and likely won't next deadline either. They could very well move the '26 1st(and may have already done so if Calgary had taken their offer for Hanifin), but I don’t see it for Dowd.

Probably best for me to remove the Wright and Dowd trades.

As much as Duck fans think Zegras for Leonard is the starting point, Wash says no and Ducks may still listen about the Caps other players, they are doing alright for young talent for trade bait.

Reports say Zegras will get shopped in the off season.

Zegras isn't a franchise player like you think he is.

Leonard's 1st year for Boston college has been better than Zegras 1st year for Boston college.
Leonard's final year of US U18 has also been better than Zegras final year of US U18.
So...

I don't think he's a franchise player, and if I ever said he was, it's been a very long time since I said it (t> 1 year).

But he is an extremely talented top 6 forward who can play C or LW, he's a star player by any measure. You want a young star, you pay the price for a young star. Your trade comps are Gauthier and Mittlestadt.

Sure, he's not great defensively, so he'll turn into an Artemi Panarin or Phil Kessel, both of whom were integral parts of their teams cup runs.

No credible reports say that.

If Zegras isn't a franchise player, why are you acquiring him to be your #1 center?

Because there is a difference between 1st line player and franchise player.

So...

And Zegras is a proven NHL commodity, Leonard is a prospect, So....... There's more risk involved in Leonard, because he can dial to launch at the NHL level, and Zegras went to Boston University, not Boston College.

If you guys need a playmaking 1C so bad, OS mittlestadt from Colorado. Otherwise you need to buy Zegras off Anaheim and that's going to be supremely costly.

Both Bos Co and Bos U are in the same league vs. the same teams in the NCAA, so no difference, that's like arguing NYI and NYR.

On a non playoff team yes.

Better than Strome.

Imagine Strome was picked ahead of Marner and Hanifin.

I don’t see Leonard in the Zegras offer, so ANA doesn’t even consider moving their young stud that isn’t available. Not interested in moving Leonard for him? Super understandable. You just won’t see Zegras playing for WAS

Stamkos may re-sign if he takes a very team friendly deal. If not, oh well. He also hasn't been primarily a C for awhile, so as I said, Tampa doesn't need to trade for Dowd at a ridiculous price. Tampa has Point, Cirelli, Paul, Glendening, as well as a couple of promising centers that are close to getting promoted. Dowd for a.1st is a terrible overpay for most teams, and especially Tampa.
