If Holtz-for-Markstrom were to get revived, I believe it would occur after July 1st (so after draft), would include max retention, and a fair amount of groveling on Conroy’s part.

Yeah you're right about the first part, idk about the retention but lets see how Allen and Kahkonen do then decide who's gonna have to grovel. (50/50 imo)

Markstrom is an 0.878 since the 1st trade involving Holtz was supposedly occuring, and has burned a year of his value. Frankly his value has been cut in half

Forget about Mangiapane if you want retention and aren't willing to pay for it.

It won't be Calgary groveling after the Allen Kahkonen tandem fails.

yeah I've gotten good feedback from habs fans on it, could easily see it happening

Markstrom is an 0.878 since the trade fell through.

Go figure... What Habs fans think is irrelevant. Calgary has no interest in Harris and nobody is going to pay a 2nd for a depth defenseman who's on the small side.

You clearly haven't watched a single flames game since the deadline, the team in front of him has been awful, and the .878 you're complaining about is over a 6 game sample size. (Allen has been even worse in that time frame)

8 games*, negative GSAx, 0.878.

1 year of value gone and if he heads into the offseason on a slump like this we might just end up back in cap dump territory

CGY probably wants another defenseman considering they lost half of them this year, and a young guy who's gotten no opportunity elsewhere sounds exactly like Sharangovich, Kuzmenko and Miromanov...

Maybe, but you might be putting a little too much faith in your tandem

so ignore the 9.10 sv% and his top 5 analytics across the league since he's had 8 bad games with no help in front of him, alright

I think our chances of a lottery win are about the same as our chances for playoffs….so it depends on what we’re going for here.

Considering it's his play since the initial trade got nixed. Presumably, with a VASTLY lower level of play, 1 less year, and 1 year older, value drops significantly.

We'll see what he does the rest of the year. At minimum losing this year significantly decreases value. If his play also deteriorates, or he asks for a trade, watch out.

And even then, watch out for potentially Ullmark, Swayman, Logan Thompson, Jarry, all the UFAs, Knight, Gibson, Saros, Askarov, Georgiev, Vejmelka, etc all there to bring down the price.

If they want another defenseman it'll be a top 4, they won't be wasting 2nd or 3rd round picks on a small bottom pair player like Harris. They already have picked up plenty of young players and prospects looking for a chance.

MTL isnt as confident in Primeau
Markstrom with Montembault for the next 2 years makes us Competitive
If we're selling Harris anyways for that value then why not Harris and a 2nd for Markstrom?
We'll throw in Kappanen or Kidney if you RS atleast 25% to give both sides an out if the Tandem doesnt work as sometimes Goalies dont mesh

By Then im confident Primeau will have fallen short of expectations and become expendable as Dobes rises and Fowler thrives in NCAA at the top of it in almost all personal and team cataegories.
Markstrom for 2 years timing wise just makes perfect sense as he'll leave Monty a true undisputed Starter in the NHL and a better Mentor for Youth as every team Markstrom leaves Goaltending stacked as development has more impact in the systems that he's in. Monty could be that guy to help hold it down while either Dobes or Fowler rise up

Some People are high on Primeau and i get it , i was too since his NCAA years (Started watching for Poehling, kept subsribing)
But his Conditioning still isnt better and he doesnt seem to care about improving it. He's good for short stints and might be a good tandem guy one day in a 2A/2B Tandem
But he doesnt have the Stamina to be consistent and after years of watching him hoping for the best i've come to terms with him being a Montoya

Markstrom to me Makes Monty a real threat long term for MTL IMO

Genieuly think it would be easier to trade the NJD 1st this year for Markstrom straight up instead of Holtz and other picks

Also removes the need for the Harris trade as the Flames can pick Iginla and a LHD like Dickinson with the picks

Harris and a 2nd for Markstrom? That's ridiculous we'll just keep Markstrom. Adding Kappanen or Kidney doesn't change that.

Yeah they would. Why would Jersey want a player that will only be NHL ready in 2-3 years when their window to win is now. Holtz is at the very least nhl caliber and on his elc. Thats worth more than a 14th overall pick in a weaker draft
