I'll bet that there's a team that will give Brett Pesce 50% more than that, in both money and term.

Can't see the Hawks having any interest in Bunting at that price. Pesce and Toffoli both get more. And if Jake was willing to take $7.5m, don't you think the Pens would have just extended him? On the plus side, the cap next season is $87.7m, so you have an extra $4m to work with.

I don't think the contract amount was the issue. More the term. He shouldn't expect more than a 5 year deal. But we'll see.

Hawks aren't paying a 2nd for Bunting. He was propped up by Matthews and Marner in Toronto and a rebuilding team doesn't need a 3rd cog in the wheel on a top 6 line which means his production will fall off and that $4.5M cap hit won't be worth the money. Hawks are rebuilding organically through the draft and filling gaps by adding through free agency, not giving up draft picks for players who are older and will only loose future trade value on Chicago's bottom ranking team.
