Personally I'd rather keep Manson over Walker for the 500k difference and find a different guy for the 3LD.

Mitts is almost certainly going to be asking for 6-7M

Canucks pass Soucy has been great in his limited time with the team and is signed pretty cheap for the next 2 years so not going to trade him for something we already have the premium version of in Hughes.

He was supposedly asking for over $7mil,
which is why the Sabres traded him

Soucy has an NTC and Van does not want to trade size for a tiny, unproven college prospect.

Can't see Sabres giving up assets for Manson at this point in their cycle either.

Interesting trade, if all the bonuses are paid his contract in actual money drops the last 2 years. Still a pretty solid Dman, just don't know if he could handle the minutes he would be playing with Power. I would think about this Depending on what happens before the draft.

I agree with you BUT if Manson still has enough in the tank and he is willing to waive to come here our first timeline is just to make the playoffs so it might be worth it since he would have 2 years of contract left. If it doesn't work I'm sure he can be traded at the TDL in that last year even if 50% is held. Now you would have two cup winners on the blueline.
Just finished watching his fight with Zadorov from the 13th...still has a bit of nastiness in him for throwing that extra punch when Z was down, something we need

You're going to need to have some veteran leadership in there and Manson is probably the ideal candidate for what the Sabres need.

Getting him to waive is the question...would have to have Byram do a great sell job lol

So just giving away Wood, that’s a strategy.

What’s is BUF timeline? Thompson is 26, Tuch is 28, Dahlin is on his second contract, Cozens the same, Byram too if I’m those guys I want to win now, right now.

Sure, we’re trying to get to the playoffs NOW
But half our team is still younger than 24
We aren’t realistically gonna contend for the Cup for at least a few more years- and that’s the goal

So instead of Manson, who’ll be 33 to start next year,
we’d prefer someone 5 years younger or so
Someone who can help us win now, AND in the future

Skinner is 31
Girgensons is 30
Tuch & Greenway are 27…. We’re looking for another guy in that age rage imo- not a 33 year old

I suppose it’s a possibility Adams would do this,
but I’m also SURE he’d try to find younger guys first & something like this would be a fall back option

Not going to be too many available that fit the bill though is the problem and pretty much every team has guys in that range, or at least winning ones do!

We could also sign a guy that age though
*IF* we can’t find a younger “Vet”
We are building for the long term, not just NOW
So if a 33 year old we could use comes cheaply,
then that makes a hell of a lot more sense than giving up a 2nd for a guy who’ll only be here for a couple years

I can agree with that but young RHD that have potential are hard to come by. Manson is perfect for the team at this time but would he waive to come here if
he were available. I like the idea of having both Byram and a Manson In my top 4. It's only a 2 yr contract and I doubt he'd be hard to trade if it came to that.
It all can't be young guys on the team, need some vets with playoff and cup experience sprinkled in. If they kept Okposo that long... 2 yrs of Manson can't hurt.

It’s also not ideal though
And I’m not necessarily talking “young”
Just not “old” either
Manson is already not the player he used to be,
and could have a major drop off at any time now

Matt Roy & DeMelo are 2 guys (both 3-4years younger) who are UFAs who could be a good fit for example
And we wouldn’t have to give up a 2nd for a guy past his prime

Certainly but teams add guys for now as well. There also aren't too many Josh Manson types out there in UFA, and he is exactly what BUF fans have been saying they need (on here at least) for most of the season aside from age.....and it gets even harder to find them younger and they tend to cost a lot.

We have tons of Cap room
So, instead of trading a 2nd for 2years of Manson,
instead for example:

Sign Matt Roy or DeMelo as UFAs who are 3 & 4 years younger

We don’t need a Manson clone btw, just a good defensive RD

Well that doesn't fit with what most have been saying with regard to the RD situation but then most were also saying Mitts wouldn't be traded (you and me included) so who knows?

I have no idea what u mean with the bolded

And Mitts wasn’t gonna be traded till he turned down the Sabres contract offer & made it clear he’d only take a big $$ long term deal
Once that situation changed, then so did our mindset about keeping him around

Big, tough, defensive, physical and nasty are the terms I've usually read described on here and elsewhere for what the Sabres need to add at RD. Young is the only part that doesn't fit with Manson, and finding all those attributes and young as well is a rarity these days. So yeah a young clone of Manson seems to be what most have had in mind.

As for Mittelstadt...don't try to wriggle out of it. Right up to the trade you were the most vehement denier on here of it being a possibility. Many of us agreed it was unlikely but none were so certain as you lol. I'd also like to see where you discovered he was offered a deal and turned it down as all indications I can find online are that he wasn't offered one.
