Don't mean to be a negative voice here, but I have no clue why would the Habs give up so much for a 9th overall? Doesn't make sense.
You're giving up Barron [RFA Rights], Farrell, 2024 1st round pick (WPG); 2025 1st round pick (CGY); and 2025 2nd round pick (PIT) for a 9th?
While Barron isn't a high hit right now, he's still young and showing good signs, he may be added to a trade at Draft or offseason to get a veteran or a 2nd round pick.
Farrell has been more than useful and would alone fetch a 2nd round pick if he needed to be moved.
While the WIN is a late pick, Flames don't look like a top 15 team for next year either so Hugues may want to gamble and wait to see what pans out because it's full of clauses but could turn out better than expected if they can get a 11th to 15 pick. So it doesn't makes sense for Habs to trade so much for a 9th.. From 3 to 5 probably, but not over 5.
And PS from the years in Toronto and the moves Dubas did this year with the Pens.. I will say he isn't that smart to pull any of these off.. He'll do what he's done in Toronto, drive the team to nothing so he can get the easy picks top 3 in two to 3 drafts (Unless Sr Management wake up and fire him from the mess). By that time Crosby, Malkin and Letang will all be pass any chances of going for another cup run.
Hope Management send him packing soon before he destroys the Pens ... He got it easy in Toronto.. Tavares WANTED to play in TO, he drastically overpaid him anyways, he got Matthews of a draft lottery on that good year and got high pick for most of them. But he couldn't figure out the players who'll defend to bring it in.
