Carolina laugh at you. You're getting neither Slavin or Necas for 1 year of Marner. Oh, AND Slavin would be your 1LD since he'd be undisputably your best defenseman. Maybe this is a case of you not knowing Slavin is the best LHD in the NHL, instead of overvaluing Marner, but it's still an easy decline

Necas and a 1st for Marner, sure there could be something there. But Slavin isn’t going anywhere if Matthews isn’t in the conversation.

Slavin is a fine player, but he of course isn't the best LHD in the NHL

Probably the best shutdown defender in game!
Would love him but CAR would never trade him.

As important as Matthews is to Toronto, Slavin is equally as important to Carolina. If you want to acquire a unicorn, you have to give up a unicorn in return. Either which way, neither team would do it, with how critical a role each player lives in.

Nobody is going to be trading anything for Marner with that contract unless it's with big retention. Even then he doesn't fetch near what Toronto fans think he will. He's a pending UFA (a rental IOW) a soft perimeter passer who'll be asking for even more ridiculous money on his next contract than he makes now.

You won't be getting Markstrom for that either.

Delusional if you really believe they're equal players based on what they do let alone their contractual situations.

Absoultely not. Slavin's going nowhere. Outside of Aho, he's the most valuable and important player to this organization imo.

They are by no means equal players, don’t get me wrong. But with how important Slavin is to the Canes, if he were to be moved to the Leafs, it wouldn’t be for anyone outside of Matthews.

Would makes you think Carrier is worth signing? Lots of goalies available at 4m, without giving up assets for Markstrom.
Carolina (and Marner) say no to one year of Marner.

Instead of overvaluing your players, recognize that Slavin isn’t the best LD in hockey.

Normal Caniac activities today?

Whose better? Devon Toews is the only one in the conversation, and I still think Slavin clears because no Makar tax. So, feel free. If you come back with Quinn Hughes, I'm going to sit here and laugh in your face.

Ah, normal caniac activities today I see.

Yeah Hughes is just better. You didn’t like my Athletic chart so I showed Hughes RAPM chart and you just ignored me. Typical.

I’ll take a ppg defenseman over a DFD with average offensive talent any day. Anybody would. You’re just a homer 🤷🏼‍♂️

It’s because he’s on Carolina. If Marner was on Carolina he’d be the best RW in the league according to him.

For 2 years he claimed Hamilton was the best defenseman in the NHL. Then he left

Yeah, everything he said lost all validity when he once tried to convince me that Svechnikov was better than Marner.

I, to this day, have yet to encounter a bigger homer.

While I agree Marner isn't fetching either Necas or Slavin saying Matthews is the only Toronto player Carolina would trade Slavin for is totally absurd. I have absolutely no doubt Carolina would trade Slavin + more for Nylander in an instant but the Leafs wouldn't offer Nylander even if Slavin wasn't 29 years old and UFA next year. In fact the Leafs wouldn't accept Slavin + Necas for Nylander if Carolina offered that.
