I dont think giving away Norris and Chabot like that is the right thing to do

Feel bad for the Norris and the Sens that injuries have derailed is career. IMO he's a real tough trade. If he can play to contract, fine. But the risk of on and off LTIR is too much of risk for the Bruins to take on. Like the thought of the Sens clearing 16m in cap of Norris and Cabot if the Sens can pull it off.

No chance the Sens are moving that contract without far more clarity on Norris' future and the level of hockey he can play, let alone get positive assets for him. He's just far too risky of an asset for anyone to want long term at 8M/season

Trading both makes them worse unless it’s for a top 4 RD and a 2 way 2nd liner

Or trading for futures and using that 16m to sign UFAs.

And you think ottawa will get any UFAs close to as good as those 2? They’ll have to significantly overpay . Look at Columbus . They had to give Severson an 8 year 6.5 mill at age 28/29 just to get him to go there. No thank you

You're right about some UFAs, but with some many teams near the cap, most players are looking for a "home. Just saying the 16m invested in Norris and Chabot hasn't been successful...maybe it will be. Can 16m be spent better?

I mean if we can free cap space I’d definitely overpay to get Matt Roy. But he’s from Detroit so maybe he just wants to go home

Yea, I don't think Roy is available to the Leafs (as many Leaf fans think). Sabres and Wings are looking for RHD;
For the Sens, I was thinking more along the shorter term deals for Tanev, DeMelo or Walker.
Spending the cap is so subjective,,,,difficult to say what is best. And the end of the season, only one team does it right.

I would definitely take Tanev on a 2 x 4.5 (anything more no thanks) or Demelo 4 x 4.8 (anything more no thanks) . Walker apparently is looking for like 5 x 5.5 ( I think I’d pass)
