Makes way more sense for Montreal to keep Dach and hope he can stay healthy/play well rather than sell low on him

I think they would entail the idea with his injury history and decrease in play before coming to Montreal may just think time to cash out into new draft capital and prospects

Dach is worth tons. The only think that would "entail" us to trade him would be an offer worth more than what we paid, so something worth more than 13th OA. We have 0% reason to trade him, and absolutely don't want to trade him

Dach since the trade:

burned 2 years of his RFA control
still hasn't had a season above 18 5v5 points
season ending knee injury.

In what universe has his value gone up?

Also :

55 pts pace as a 21 years old vs 30 pts pace

Signed a steal of a contract

Has become SIGNIFICANTLY better defensively

In what universe has his value not gone up

He got 3+ minutes a night on PP1 to rack up points. Same thing happened with monahan and slaf went put into that role (slaf was the best tho)

The lack of 5v5 production improvement is concerning. He put up the same number of 5v5 points as drouin, less than hoffman and dvorak.

And then his knee exploded.

I don't think he has meaningfully improved.

And frankly watching what Slaf has done with that same role on PP1 and alongside caufield and suzuki (much much better) only makes me lower on dach.

I'd value Newhook over him at this point tbh

In Chicago, he had a lot of PP1 time too. He didn’t produce.

His defensive numbers are SIGNIFICANTLY better

His 5v5 production improved slightly and will continue to grow

Also let’s take a look at his injuries :

1. Wrist injury, wich persisted one season. Can happen to anybody but still concerning. However, he doesn’t have problem with his wrist anymore

2. Shoulder injury. Can happen to anybody and doesn’t look to be persisting

3. Lower body injury. Happens a lot and unless it’s the knee, not concerning

4. Upper body injury. If it’s the shoulder, might be concerning, but if not, it’s pretty common

5. Knee injury. Happened when he got launched into the bench by Tinordi. It’s not a persisting past injury since everybody would have been injured there.

So he isn’t as prone to injury as people think

I don't think he's prone to injury. I think the knee injury will still be impacting him next year.

I would not pay a 13th overall pick for him today or close to it. Even if he didn't hurt his knee.

You traded 13th for 4 years of dach. now only 2 years remain, 1 of which will still likely be impacted by the knee injury.

And additionally the 5v5 production just isn't there.

I'm not buying based on power play production from a guy who isn't the driver on the PP.

The PP this year is better with no dach

Since he is with Montreal. He always responded great when coming back from an injury.

When his contract expires, he will still be an RFA and will likely sign long term

The 5v5 production isn’t there for any habs forward. They will all improve one day

How can you say the pp is better without him when he has played 2 games only this season?

Comparing the PP from last season to this season.

But frankly even if you believe he’s a great power play guy.

My consensus will always be that games are won via producing when both teams have 5 guys on the ice

Most games are actually decided by wich team had better special teams.

Until the playoffs when the refs put their whistles away...

but emphasis on 5v5 is niche these days and won't last long until people find the new stat to cling onto that'll make them feel like their generation is the smartest one and the ones before them are dinosaurs.

So Montreal fans don't want to sell low on Dach but that is exactly what they expect Anaheim to do with Zegras!
