Large overpay on markstrom.

Here are some goalies that have recieved top 11 picks since 2010:

23 year old Seymon Varlamov
26 year old cory schneider

Seems like 35 year old Jacob Markstrom doesn't exactly fit in that category

As a Sharks fan my extremely optimistic (even if unrealistic) hope is the Devils eke their way into the playoffs and get eliminated in the ECF. More realistically I'd hope the Devils bottom out even more and the pick ends up in the 37-38 range.

And what exactly would be a fair trade for both teams over Markstrom ?

Depends on how markstrom finishes out the season, where he's willing to waive to, and what other teams are interested.

So, basically, you have no answer to my question whatsoever and your only contribution to this AGM is "MARKSTROM TRADE BAD!!!"

Alright then.

Based on his current age, contract, NMC, and level of play.

a 2nd+whatever the cost of retention is (i'd imagine a late 1st for 50%)

Love the description of the team and this is what Fitz should be looking to do.
Fire the entire coaching staff after game 82
Get Sully from Pitt
Get a G Ullmark for a 2nd and a 3rd is better value (can argue who/how much)
Hanifin is a good choice imo, give VGS a pick to sign @ 8 (Ala Severson trade to cbj)
If the luster is off on Siegs (I'm OK with him ) trade for Petey (can argue what goes the other way)
Add an entire new 4th line and 1/3 of 3rd line with good skaters with some beef! Move Bastian, it's time.
Contend for years!

And that would be a '25 pick not this year's #7-11
With enough prying and massaging that's Swayman territory, Saros with a deal in place at a min

I have a feeling the Devils gave Calgary a better deal than that when Calgary asked Markstrom to waive his NMC for the Garden State.

But whatever ...

I imagine they did.

But since then.

Markstrom no longer has his most valuable year available to be traded. Frankly just from that his value is cut in half (considering his age 36 season wasn't even positive value in the first place)
Markstrom has played 9 games, posting a 0.878 save%, 3.43 GAA, and a negative GSAx.
Markstrom has gotten injured.

Who are some prospects that the Devils should consider drafting at #11 ?

Assuming the draft order from Tankathon stays the same.

I can't say I'm an expert on this years draft. I'd say just take best available.

It is not that big of an overpay, Markstrom can keep goaltending up consistently.

Based on???

Last year he sucked.
20-21 he sucked.

He’s been good in 2/4 of his years in Calgary.

as long as you have a good back-up goalie, you should be fine. Markstrom is either good or bad. He was sort of like David Rittich.

Yeah you don't pay a top 11 pick and 6 million dollars for that.

So, not only did you initially refuse to tell me what exactly would be a fair trade for Markstrom ...

But now, you won't even tell me exactly who you would like to see drafted by the Devils at #11.

How do you even determine who the BPA is when it is New Jersey's turn to pick ??

I think you're being a bit evasive right about now.

Markstrom is gonna be on the wrong side of 35 at 6M. Not a good idea period.

Blame Don Maloney for that. Having a team on the ropes @ TDL is worth more than mid summer with nothing to play for. Ullmark rumors help that cist come down

Cayden Lindstrom would be nice. Not sure he makes it to 11 though
EDIT-After looking at it more, he's not making it to 8 most likely!
maybe Trevor Connelly?

Get used to it with that guy. He's a NJ homer not worth wasting any time on responding to. According to him every Devil is worth his weight in gold and all the players they want are worth next to nothing in comparision.

He answered though.
If Ullmark is a 2nd and 3rd, Markstrom can't be a 1st + in the summer!
