The 2024 Leafs Fall Roster

Created by: KingExLeafs
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 25, 2024
Published: Mar. 25, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
UFA priorities: Two top 4 right shot defencemen, a versatile but cheap center who can play 2nd line and 3rd line minutes, and a top six veteran who can play with Matthews and Marner and whose game is polished defensively. I believe the Leafs should dedicate the majority of their cap space to these crucial areas. They can afford to go cheap in net for a season because Woll looks like a starter and a vet like Martin Jones won't command a lot of salary.

Makes no sense for Ottawa to do that, you'd have to pay us to take him.

Preds pass. I like Lily but we should only be spending firsts on difference makers

3 years at 2.4 million is not a bad contract. The center UFA market isn't deep this year so the Leafs can definitely move him if they wanted to. A team like the Sens could be making changes this offseason, they might target veterans in trades.

A late 1st for Liljegren is a good deal. Liljegren is on the cusp of becoming a solid player. Plus, Nashville knows how to develop defencemen. I think he could be a cheaper replacement for Carrier who could be commanding a big contract in UFA.

I think he's a solid 2RD, don't get me wrong, but he's not the player we should shoot for. We already have a similar player in Fabbro. I'd like to spend that first on a potential 1C once ROR kicks the can to retirement

If it’s not a bad deal why are you and every other Leafs fan trying to dump Kampf on other teams?

Hawks also decline, they have enough sub 6 ft forwards, not giving up a 2nd round pick for LTIRobertson.

3 years at 2.4M for a no offense 4C who’s struggled defensively this year is a bad contract

Leafs need every penny. A 3C/4C making over 2 million is a luxury the Leafs can't afford. That doesn't make Kampf a bad player or a player not playing up to his contract.

A 3rd round pick for a bounce back candidate is not that big of a risk. The lack of UFA centers this summer would make Kampf more attractive next season to certain teams who need depth in that position.

Maybe if the Leafs retained. But very few if any teams are gonna be lining up to acquire a 2.4M 4th liner who doesn’t provide offense and who has been pretty mediocre defensively this season as well

I think he'll show up in the playoffs and raise his trade value. He's more noticeable in the big games imo.

Sorry, but on what planet is Robertson worth a 2nd?

Chicago, Nashville and Ottawa all easily decline. None of those players are worth those picks.

You would have enough to pay Kampf’s contract for the next three seasons!

No it doesn’t make him a bad player but every team is playing under the same cap rules, so an overpaid third or fourth liner for the Leafs is also overpaid for any other team. There has to be a benefit for a team acquiring Kampf… giving up a 3rd round pick is no benefit.

Kampf is worth about 900k, so no Ottawa is not going to throw away money for no reason.

The last thing Ottawa needs is another center when they already have Stutzle, Norris, Pinto, Greig, and Kastelic.
