Marner for Crosby who says no who has to add

Description
Assume everybody would resign and everybody would waive.

Who says no?

Who adds?

I’m an outsider - my perspective is that Crosby has a pretty good lock on 2 solid seasons in the future, then it gets pretty shaky, but I don’t think he’s a liability, just perhaps not a premium contributor. Just how age works. Probably 4 years where it’s a positive on the ice, then… that’s about it maybe.

I have to imagine if Crosby is moved as a rental next season, he’s probably the most significant rental in nhl history, commanding a price tag that is roughly double the average “top rental center price”. Something a little bit like Giroux, but likely a tad more.

Therefore, if you want to keep your young assets, perhaps there is a hockey trade where two pending ufas agree to new roles at opposite clubs. Otherwise, If you wanted to rent Crosby, it’s gonna cost like all your young players. At some point the fair price is just too much, and it prevents a deal from happening at all. It simply may not be possible to pay the price for Crosby in futures because the fair price just costs too much. I think a hockey trade is more likely if something did occur, and when I think that I look to other pending ufas on winning clubs.

I think if some deal did occur then it would be very good for the health of the nhl and I think some hypothetical future (not this trade proposal) where Crosby rented out then resigned in Pittsburg is the best timeline for the nhl.

The league is better when the best players are in the playoffs and the entire industry is based on selling tickets. This would sell tickets.

Leafs say no.

An aging second line center is easier to find than a still in his prime elite winger.

The Leafs already taken the NYI franchise center to play behind Matthews so taking Pit franchise center would give the Leafs the same result as JT had.

I like this idea. TOR needs a cup now and PIT needs to rebuild now. Timelines work. How do you bring Crosby in and not automatically give him the C over JT and AM and MR. Due to cap hit and position and winning pedigree in SC, I think it makes up for the youth in MM. But this leaves PIT with little options at centre. Maybe if they draft celebrini 🤷🏻‍♂️

While I agree the Leafs say no (and so does Crosby himself) JT at his absolute peak is still worse than 36 year old Crosby. The risk is eventually Crosby will have a fall-off. IMO that is more likely to happen in a change of scenery so moving to Toronto would probably increase that chance tenfold.

As an outsider, i think it would be an interesting idea to think about for both teams

Especially if the Leafs think they can extend Crosby for a few years at a cheaper cost than Marner

PIT i think says yes for sure, & would be willing to give Marner the big deal he wants

kyle says no, and sid says no. hes committed to crosby and the core (for better or for worse, and i believe a good chunk of the fanbase, myself included, agrees with the sentiment), and crosby, according to pittsburgh media, is committed to seeing things thru in pittsburgh, regardless of how it ends. sid also says no bc, even if im wrong and he wants out, i dont see the leafs as his first choice. they might not even be his second choice. to me, hed play with mackinnon in colorado.
