Offseason - Anders Lee Open Discusison

Created by: exo2769
Team: 2024-25 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 23, 2024
Published: Mar. 28, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Similar to what was written in the trade description. I'm just trying to outline that something can be done here. The Hawks should (imo) be willing to take on his contract because we need more veteran leadership and he really isn't a pure cap dump. He has a role on a team...it's just that his cap hit was way too high. I think there can be a deal made here where the Islanders to get more picks and more cap space, BUT that does come at a cost. I'm certainly open for additional discussion, but I like to use link below to better understand the pick values and then truly get to what Anders would cost.

Pick #13 has a value of 310

Pick #54 has a value of 52
Pick #64 has a value of 36
NYI 2nd 2025??? let's say middle 2nd? Pick #48 has a value of 66.

That Math works out such that Anders is worth 156 points which is in between #28 and #29 in value. A late 1st in my opinion is a back of magic beans. AGAIN, open to more discussion but wanted to put this out there for thoughts.

Assumes the NYI stay at #13

I'm definitely open to discussing something different than this exact proposal. I'm just outlining to both fan bases that there could be something here. Anders isn't a pure cap dump. Hawks could use the 2 year contract and veteran leadership. BUT it's still $7M cap hit which is a tough pill to take. Sure that 1 pick is a high pick, but getting cap space and (3) 2nds back...probably not the worst proposal you've ever seen.
NYI
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (LAK)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (VAN)
  3. 2026 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Assumes these two picks stay at roughly #54 and #64 and then 2026 NYI 2nd back to the Isles.

Can't see the Isles trading him along with a front half first.

Also, I would think that he doesn't waive for the Hawks

No chance the Isles give up a 1st round pick to trade Lee. Absurd.

This is such an interesting trade. On one hand, its stupid. On the other, it's so stupid it just might work.

I like this more for the Islanders then the Blackhawks. You free up space 7 million in cap space and get 3 draft picks all in the second round which still have high value. Losing the 13th overall sucks however I think I would rather have 3 level B prospects then a single level A prospect.

I like it. NYI needs cap and roster space and to restock their pipeline, while CHI needs quality over quantity and should be more than willing to package 2nd round picks in order to do so. Some fans may not like it, but it makes sense for both sides.

I'm not even mad because that 1st part is exactly my approach and why I'm looking for discussion. I immediately thought, no way and I'm still trying to tinker. Maybe the CHI 2nd instead of LAK 2nd? All up for discussion.

I think I would prefer to make this a 2025 1st (lottery protected) with nothing coming back and use that 13th pick for a player like Chychrun (extended) now. But its interesting and something to think about

I'd be fine w/ something along these lines from the Hawks perspective. I would be less ok if the deal included the Hawks own '24 2nd. To me, Lee takes a 2nd and a 3rd to move, but those picks probably don't interest the Hawks too much. $7m cap hit for two years, but only $10.5m in actual salary. And like you said, still a useful player. Just can't see the Isles using their '24 1st to make this trade happen. Cool idea though!

Props for the original idea. I do this 10/10 days. While the 13th does have a good chance of being a good top6/top 4 player, no guarantees. Despite being late 2nds there is a chance one of those players can be an impact player. Lee is good, but that's it good, not great or elite and for 7 mil not worth it

Honest question here. Now that it's #18...does that change your mind on the 2025 1st vs 2024 1st?

I think I’d still prefer the 25 pick if Lou is truly going to go all out and revamp the roster this summer. There are a few younger guys who could be in play for the 24 first like Chychrun
