Top-4 defender for just $3.25M is a lot better contract than an AHLer for $1.35M.

tears of joy

If Ceci is a legitimate top-4 Dman, Reaves is Alexander Ovechkin.

Not going to comment on trade details - it’s been beat to death. But some have referenced tired & lazy narrative that centre is more valuable than winger; maybe slightly but not by much. Ovie, Kane, Kucherov etc… the league now, and the history of the league, is littered with superstar wingers. Drai gets slight nod but Marner is a top 10-20 player in the league, one of very few that is truly elite at both ends of the ice.

Uh, I didn’t know minutes played was the only factor that determined a players skill. By your logic Seth Jones is a better player than Cale Makar. 😂

& yes they did try to trade him. I can’t remember exactly who it was, I think it was Frank Servalli that reported it but coulda been someone else, but it was reported that Edmonton was looking at moving Ceci but the players told Holland that they didn’t want Ceci traded so Holland didn’t pull the trigger.

But keep believing that he’s a top 4 guy. That’s the funniest take I’ve read on here. ✌🏻

when you play top 4 minutes on a contending team its not an accident. Ceci is a top 4 dman on most teams in this league and is certainly not a cap dump.

yes they might have been willing to trade him for a better dman that does not mean hes not a top 4 dman. just means they might have been able to get a better player in return.

Toronto hasn’t played with Marner in the lineup since March 7 and their PP is ranked 30th since then as is this PK.. both units that Marner plays on the top unit on. That’s why Marner is more valuable. If Draisaitl gets injured, Edmonton has McDavid to keep pushing the offence. When Toronto loses Marner, they don’t have anyone capable of putting up 90-100 points while still playing top PP minutes (while being the QB on a top 5 ranked PP) and still playing top PK minutes.

interesting. so the same thing happens when RNH is out of the oilers line up... does that make RNH more valuable than Dri or mcdaivd? if so I like your trade but will swap RNH for DRi to be your number 2C as he is clearly the most valuable do to that!!!

Sure, he plays top-4 minutes, but he's also awful. TOI doesn't equate to production and it's why he was shopped at the deadline and benched recently

when was he benched?

You’re joking if you think RNH affects a PP that has McDavid and Draisaitl on it.
Jesus. Oilers fans are starting to be worse than Habs fans and even most Leafs fans. 🤦🏻‍♂️

If you go the 2021-22 season when he was hurt the PP% and PK% dropped drastically when he was injured. But yes I am joking to point out how silly your point was with marner. has 0 to due with their value. Dri is vastly more valuable multi 50 goal season. 100points year over year. takes every important draw. centerman art ross and hart and ted lindsey winner.

So are you actually saying if you were to start a franchise and you had to pick between Marner and Draisaitl you would pick Marner?

Marner: 1.11ppg, +102, has been nominated for the Selke multiple times and was even a finalist
Draisaitl: 1.18ppg, +55, has only been nominated for Selke twice and never finished higher than 13th

Over the course of an 82 game schedule Draisaitl averages only 6 more points per season, while Marner blows him away defensively. Marner is also 2 years younger.

So yeah, I take Marner every day of the week. And I’m sure a bunch of people would too.

It shows that Marner has been the more consistent player throughout his career.

As I’ve said multiple times, Marner is 100% the more complete player. Anyone with half a brain in hockey would agree. Go watch a game or go look at any stats. Marner is the more complete player. Draisaitl is better offensively - I’ve said that as well. But if you’re building a franchise from the ground up, you take the more complete player that can still put up 100 points and play defence at an elite level. Hockey isn’t all about just who can score the most points.

Seems more like you’re the bias one here. I’ve simply said that Marner is more complete than Draisaitl. You keep coming at me saying Draisaitl is so much better because he scores more points. But if you look at the stats, nothing I’ve said is wrong and stats are opinionated.

Draisaitl is in a different league come playoffs. But I wouldn't expect you to know much about - or put any premium on - playoff success.

The funny thing is that you continue to offer nothing constructive to the original debate but your own bias opinion, and you continue to try to make it personal by antagonizing comments. Which only suggests that you’re more of a troll than someone actually worth discussing something with. Must be a great life to sit behind a computer and try to chirp people for no reason at all!
