What is a top 10 pick worth to your team

Created by: edeangel84
Team: 2024-25 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 1, 2024
Published: Apr. 1, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If we get a pick in the 7-10 range through the lottery would a team offer a cost controlled young forward as part of a package to get that pick? A prospect at that level is usually 2-3 years off the NHL and it’s clear the team prefers NHL ready young players.

PIT currently has the 12th pick. Almost zero chance they are getting down to 7th. Might get to 8th if they do poorly and a few other teams in that range close the season strong. Most likely SJS will get a middle of the round 1st. Which I'm sure was entirely not expected when they acquired Karlsson.

We have a tough end and I don’t see many points beyond what we already have. 9 or 10 should be reasonable.

PIT would have to come close to losing out to finish the season. I hope it happens as I think getting a #7 or #8 pick and at least being better next year would benefit the org. But I don't know if that will be the case. Worst case scenario is they get a 9 or 10 this year and a bottom 5 pick next season. Most likely they end up giving up #11-13 in this draft and end up around the same next season.

My hope is top 10 this year and make a stronger push next season so that pick is more in the 12-17 range.

I don't personally think the Wild should do it, but I have wondered about a package involving PIT 2024 1st and Rossi.

IMO, there are some not terribly farfetched reasons on why it could materialize:
            1) Rumblings that Rossi may be shopped
            2) Guerin history dealing with PIT
            3) Dubas' proclivity towards analytics profile players
            4) The fit itself - a young, ready-now C vs. draft pick
            5) MNs need to eventually backfill Spurgeon / strong draft cycle on defenseman

I don't think MN would do Rossi for 9th straight up, but I wouldn't be shocked if rumors were to heat up closer to the draft.

I’d prefer to get two players back if possible like the trades I made above. I’d imagine we’d have to pitch something else in but Rossi would definitely be a player of interest.

Ya I just meant as the base of a trade - there would need to be some balancing for sure and the kickers are tough to predict, so you can tweak the dials up or down to preference.

Sillinger isn't going anywhere - not after he's bounced back - and there's no interest in moving Texier. Trying to ask for both of them is not going to win friends and influence people.

            Yzerman likely makes that trade.

Veleno and Berggren were Holland picks.

Wings have a lot of young forwards coming up in their system.

Pens get 2 cheap young players who can play immediately.

Neighbours you can forget. The Blues would presumably be very interested but lead with their own 24 1st. I suppose it's possible they'd part with Torp, but would not bet on it.

The only players Columbus should be moving for a top-10 pick are those who are 28 years old or older...and of those, only Boone Jenner would even be close to consideration for that kind of return (Columbus would add). But there's 0 chance we move him, and <0 chance we move him to Pittsburgh.

Or we'd give you Alexander Nylander, who's on pace for 46 goals per season with us. cool

I think we would have to add a bit to that trade but it's totally worth it for me.
