Building A Winning Team

Created by: Irvine80
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 2, 2024
Published: Apr. 2, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Our playoff roster with a big addition to the third line. Not sure Jenners value and interested to see what he would take.

I beleive the Leafs need to build on what we have rather than have half a new team each year. Bert and Domi have really come into their own the last bit and will be impact players in the ploffs.

The trade deadline can address any additions we need to make

Jenner is unrealistic; if we are spending assets in a trade during off season, it will be for a dman. I think FA is better option, which means bring back Domi & Bert will be a challenge

if youre gonna spend assets like that the goal should be an actual top 4 rd so the defence doesnt have two 6th defenders in the top 4

While Jenner would be a nice fit for a 3C or even a 2C, his injury history combined with his style of play would scare me away too much from spending anything close to what Columbus would want. So unless they’re willing to undersell him I’d stay away - & I doubt they’d do that.

We've been through this, but it's been a while. I'd be all for moving Jenner, and as a player he's probably worth a late 1st and one of your top forward prospects. But he's internally so valuable to the organization there's no way Columbus moves him. Any Jenner trade at all is unrealistic, he's just completely unavailable.

And just to pre-argue:
Toronto: "Any player is available for the right price."
Columbus: "Our price is your 1st, Cowan, and a mid-rounder."
T: "That's insane, no one would pay that."
C: "Great, because we intend to keep him."

End scene.

If only there were hundreds of threads about Jenner to the Leafs you could reference.

The price for him is actually an egregious overpay, so yeah, probably not a good idea for Toronto.

I could see the price for Jenner being similar to Hagel’s deal which I wouldn’t really call an “overpay” but it’s something Toronto shouldn’t do because their prospect cupboard is bare.

Hagel got 2 late 1sts and 2 AHL players with not much potential - which from Toronto would be the picks plus players like Alex Steeves and Roni Hirvonen.
Again I wouldn’t say that’s an overpay when you’re getting a cheap middle 6 centre like Jenner but Toronto values the picks more because they’ll be younger, cheaper quality guys cause of their cap

So Bush is on the top pairing but is the 2nd lowest payed d-man. Would you sign that contract?
