A 1st for a 34 year old goalie huh?
Yeah, right 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Not to mention, that it’s a fairly high pick that’s gonna be somewhere in the 10-12 neighborhood

What a joke
ZERO CHANCE this happens

Jacob Markstrom is a sub 0.900 goalie over the last 2 years in his mid 30s with the 7th largest contract in the NHL for goalies.

Surely he goes for as much as 26 year old Cory Schneider

Let’s come back to reality shall we.

Markstrom is closer to future considerations than he is to a top 10 pick unretained

The only meltdown is the one Jacob Markstrom has had since he was told he’d have to stay in Calgary.

0.875 since then and a public call out of his own front office.

Midway through the season. Semantics. He's a middle 30s goalie.

Wild how you expected an improvement in SV% when we swapped out Hanifin, Tanev, and Lindholm for Miromanov, Okhotiuk, and Kuzmenko.

Markstrom is not of an age nor of a contract worth a top 15 1st. I'd rather spend that on Saros.

I expected competency.

Again, if Jacob Markstrom when he "only" has Andersson, Weegar, Kylington, half the games with Tanev+Hanifin, Miromanev, Okhotiuk, etc is a 0.875 goalie, then sounds like he's worse than Kaapo Kahkonen, considering the Garbage he's had all year in front of him

So you can tell me:

is
Andersson
Weegar
Kylington
Tanev/Hanifin
Pachal/Hanley
Miromanev/Okhotiuk

a worse dcore than
Vlasic
Ferraro
Thrun
Rutta
Okhotiukl
Addison
Burroughs

You are trolling if you think your 1st gets you Saros. If you are that worried about falloff from age than go after Gibson or Jarry, but the plan certainly can't be to run it back.

No goalie in the last decade has ever returned more than 9th overall.

2 years of Schneider>1 year of saros

I'm not saying the 1st alone, I'm saying I'd rather use it on Saros.

In the end though, as we couldn't extend Saros for 2024 1st, I wouldn't do that either as there are no guarantees, Would come down to a 2025 pick.

Oh cool were playing the sample size game again. Comparing 996 shots against for Kahkonen with the Sharks, to 130 shots against for Markstrom since the TDL is quite a statement. Also you realize that Weegar, Andersson and Kylington can only be on the ice half the game right? On top of that Calgary has gone from having one of the best PK's in the league to one of the worst. They've had 12 PP goals against in 38 chances since the deadline, which is 68%. Prior to that their PK was top ~5 in the league
So you think Kahkonen is a good solution in net for the Devils then instead? He's been strictly worse than Blackwood this year and we all know how well he did in New Jersey.

**** argument. Quality goalies don't get traded often enough to gauge proper value. Nashville needs a quality 1st line center as ROR is not the player he used to be. It was well reported that when Jersey asked for him they wanted Mercer and the Devil's declined. So with such a weak center pool in this draft why would they want the Devils pick for their starting goaltender who they want to extend? Helenius certainly isn't worth Saros, he projects as a middle 6 center.

Maybe try and convince Anaheim to do a 3-way trade that sense Saros to Jersey and Zegras to Nashville. I doubt Anaheim would accept 9th OA for Zegras though so you will probably have to add something relevant to that

Alright I can go to a bigger sample size if you like?

Jacob Markstrom over the last 2 years (2800 shots) is an 0.899. Simple as that.

That is again, a dcore of for the most part: Hanifin, Tanev, Andersson, Weegar, Zadorov.

You're either gonna have to start asking some tough questions to yourself about how good markstrom really is, or some tough questions to yourself about how good Andersson and Weegar are.

No one is arguing Markstrom was bad for most of last year with you. He knows it too and was vocal about his bad play last year.

But it's really as simple as your whole hatred for Markstrom now is based on a 5 game sample size since the TDL. As I've said 1000 times to you I am more than happy keeping Markstrom to mentor Wolf. The only reason I wanted the Devils pick was to draft Iginla because the Flames pick would probably be too high for him. But with recent rankings Iggy has skyrocket to a realistic pick around #8
