What would make it work? Or are you saying they will not trade Ehlers and will resign him in the following off season of 2025.

Originally wanted Villardi coming back, but I believe Villardi has more upside than Ehlers.

Was even thinking Mangiapane, but the package going over is too much.

The value is just way off. Barron and Farrell have pretty low value, Evans is a depth player, and the 1st is late. Ehlers is one of the best puck moving wingers in the league.

Do you think either Villardi or Mangiapane are available then?

Vilardi no, he's been an excellent addition for the Jets. Mangiapane yes, but Calgary won't sell him for a dime to the dollar. Winger market is flooded this summer so moving him without retention for any half decent return is impossible

I was actually thinking about Evans for the Devils the other day. Could see him complementing Lazar well on 4th line. Don’t watch enough Habs games to get a full read on him. Could you break down his game a bit?

Nice acgm. I just feel like the guys you are targeting don't have the value of what you are sending.

Defensively responsible, good on the PK, and can play 3rd or 4th line minutes (mostly 4th)

What would you be willing to send for Mangiapane & Holmström?

Personally, Im not sure either of them have very much value. You could sign UFAs =/< Mangiapane. And Ylonen/Heineman/RHP/Roy could easily duplicate what Holmstrom did this year. I think we have that internally. Just my 2 cents!

I'd not trade for him at all, but I definitely wouldn't trade the Pens 2nd round pick, which is likely a pick in the early 40s, for a guy only to play him on the 4th line

Sorry but I disagree with your assessment, Habs have 3 centers (Suzuki, Dvorak and Evans) Dach is to injury prone to even be considered a roster player let alone a center, Newhook is just not a center he is more suited to the wing. Dvorak will likely be traded in the offseason so one could argue we only have 2 centers headed into next season.

Too each there own. I would give Dach and Newhook until the trade deadline in 2025 to prove if they can play Center. Maybe they are both better on the wing. It’s possible, but I believe they are both very capable centers.

Dach was the best player through the preseason and the first two games before the injury. It was a freak accident. I don’t think you have given him a real chance. I understand he is one big injury away from being unreliable, but I believe you are shutting the door on him too soon.

I may eat my words in 11 months, but I hope not for the sake of the Canadiens, because Dach’s ceiling is high.

I was hoping that a mid season trade of Joel Armia would then allow Holmstrom to become a 3rd liner. (He would only start the season acclimating with Gallagher and Dvo)

Anderson - Newhook- Holmström until 2027

If this line could score a total 55+ goals per year that would be a win in my book.

RHP and Ylonen seem to be fringe NHL players with 4th line ceilings. (especially on this Canadiens roster)

I loved RHPs entrance into the league. Awesome player. Maybe he can find his mojo back. Ylonen has sick mitts, but I think he needs a chance else where.

Hölmstrom was drafted 7 picks after Newhook. I believe his ceiling could be middle-6. He plays north-south and can become a good PK specialist in my eyes.

SLAFSQUATCH - Who would you go for instead of Mangiapane instead with the package I proposed? (I agree Mangiapane is a bit underwhelming, but if he can get back to the 2021-2022 season form. Then I think this is a steal. No guarantees of course 😆.)

I think a smart option would be Anthony Duclair. Would be cheaper. And, imo, has an x-factor, whearas Mangiapane is kinda vanilla. Him being a Montrealer is a bonus. He would be my target, but there are others to more or lesser degrees that wouldn't cost the assets of a trade.

Dach has had 184 games worth of chances since signing with the Habs and has only managed to play 43, that is enough IMO. Also whe you take into account his time with the Hawks, he has only played 212 games out of a possible 410, that is horrible! I like Dach he would be a really, really good player if he wasnt always injured. I am just so tired of all the man games lost over the last 3 years, ignoring Price and Weber's contributions, Dach has been the other most significant contributor to that.

Do you think he would be less often injured if he played on the wing? (Or have you basically given up on him at this point in time?)

And also I am not sure where your numbers are coming from, but after the end of this season he will have played 60 out 164 possible games with the Habs. I agree it's not great. Let's hope that he play 75+ games next season, plays with awareness to stay away from potential injuries, and puts up 24G-34A-58P

I hope I am wrong on Dach, he is a really, really good player and I think he could be better than Suzuki, his injury history just makes me doubt he can be someone we can count on long term

Not sure, I think if he can get past the injuries, we will be happy with him as a player, be it on the wing or down the middle

I haven't given up on him, just curbing expectations, I think we need to have a replacement in place just incase he gets injured again
