Knies is not getting traded. Especially for a pure skill guy who doesn't have a place in the lineup that best suits him.

Leafs spend 5.75m better than Zegras and and keep Knies and the 1st. TVR isn't worth is 3m, so the Leafs keep Robertson and spend the cap difference on a Dmen.
Why would any team think goalie Murray is NHL capable?

Knies is a power forward with an excellent potential, but I'm not sure that the late first and a prospect who isn't superior to Tristan Luneau or Noah Warren sufficiently completes the package for Zegras, especially if we land Artyom Levshunov in the draft. What I am sure of, though, is that we wouldn't be including an NHL-quality young defenseman on a cheap second contract in the deal.

Just kind of a bad deal for both sides;

Leafs lose assets to add another skill guy up front who has a reputation of being soft, Anaheim loses Zegras for Knies, a late 1rst and a potential bottom 4 defensemen

Convinced this guy is a rival fan posing as a Leafs fan (his trade suggestions are always terrible )

I was really hoping it was Dallas Matt Murray.

Really? Let’s trim the fat on this deal first to assess, because we wouldn’t have interest in Niemela. So let’s assume it’s Z for Knies + 1st.

I get that Knies is more of a Verbeek player. But he’s limited positionally to the wing (we’ve already benefitted from Z’s flexibility at C/LW), and their age 21 seasons are not comparable:
Zegras - .813pt/g on a bad ANA team
Knies - .44pt/g alongside guys like Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Nylander

I’d rather keep Z than add someone far less productive who fits Verbeek’s mold more (even with a late 1st)

In a wave of terrible Z offers from other fan bases, it was at least a breath of fresh air to consider.
