Why is Montreal making this move? They're about to draft a better forward than Rossi and Holtz with their 1st and don't have to give up Guhle to do it

Doesn’t CF already calculate the Overages for you? Or are they just telling you what they’re going to be and aren’t affecting the salary cap?

Habs don't need Rossi at all, certainly not for Guhle.

those devils' trade is HORRIBLE. also why do we want to waste 5.5m on Toff when Meier showed us why he needs to be PP1 and top 6. Again Toff on devils is making more problems, plus toff was a ghost when Nico and jack were hurt. Lots of YIKES trades. Duhiame, trenin,Laff over Stenlund. cheap doesnt mean good btw, see guhle a thumper and congratz on makign the dcore small and still inexperience so problems once again for a 3rd yr in a row YIKES

I don’t think these two things have anything to do with each other.

Even if they don't, Montreal can't really move Guhle right now as they don't have a replacement.

This deal seems to make even less sense to the Wild though.

Why is Minnesota moving Rossi in any trade? Guerin likes big bodies. Hates littles. Bahl is a big. Rossi is a little. Holtz is a medium.

Mtl is giving up the best player. They received a midget forward in return. This ain’t happening. Guhle will be a stud on defense for many many year. If he get moved it will be for a established top 6 forward or a high end skill forwrd prospect. Already playing top minutes against toughest opposition all year long and he was playing on is offside sor the second half of the season.

Here's my question: do we know that the Habs are definitely thinking 2C with their 24 1st? I'm genuinely asking to learn the answer you guys surely know better than me.

I'll answer. At the press conference after Montreal's season finished, Montreal's GM heavily hinted that, all things being equal, they'd go forward over defenseman (i.e. if they think the prospects are close, they'll go forward). That doesn't necessarily mean center, but they like guys who can play center.

I don't think that has anything to do with why Montreal wouldn't look at acquiring a guy like Rossi though. They have young players who can and have played center already, they just need them to get healthy (Dach) and maintain (and continue) their growth (Newhook). Rossi doesn't make sense for Montreal as a trade target.
