Not for Marner. If this was for Matthews, this is a good framework. But Marner is 1 yr from UFA. He is not guaranteed to sign an extension and even if he did, the Jackets need a C not another winger.

Marner is literally actively tanking his own value. He is also a rental with a full NTC and Columbus is a bottom 3 team in the league this season. Marner would never waive there and Columbus would never consider a deal like this

If the Flames could somehow get the CBJs pick for Mangiapane and Markstrom it would be a huge win for the organization.

That said, you could probably use the pick to get one of the BOS goalies.

It was an overreaction to trade Marner like 5 years ago. How many years do we need to see the same result to want to change something? He should have been moved after the Montreal series. And that’s not even picking on him but it was just logical that JT couldn’t go with his no move and multiple years. Nylander had multiple years left at 7 mil so moving him wouldn’t change the cap structure enough.
So it have to be Matthews or Marner so obviously Marner.

But now it’s too late he has a full no move, and value is lower. Ideally he will give a list of teams so you can get something but they would be insane to just resign him. Let him walk if you need too. I rather take a chance that another top player gets to free agency you can go after with that money.

Mangiapane is not worth much. I don’t know why Calgary seems to think he is worth a lot?

I don't think Mangiapane is worth a whole lot. However here's why Flames fans love Mangiapane:
1. He's a homegrown talent taken in the 6th round. He kept beating the odds and getting better.
2. He plays much bigger than he is, and with some snarl
3. He's like a dog on a bone, and he finds a way to come out with the puck more often than not
4. He goes to the net and the hard areas
5. He's very good defensively, and has great analytics
6. He scored 35 goals, through hard work, and it didn't look like a fluke
7. His game much like Bennett's, seems as though it gets better in the playoffs.

I agree with your larger point, but they’re fourth overall going into the lottery. Literally not bottom three.
