Yes, because getting older has always helped this caps team out. I love it when the caps sign geriatric players from outside the organization

We need to keep our draft picks. We are so close to the point where we will be going into our rebuild.

Wow, a Laine trade that is actually fair value. I think it would be foolish of Washington to make the trade considering their precarious position, but Columbus would be foolish not to jump on the deal as offered even though I don't think it's the right time to be trading Laine at all. Still has to be cleared by the PAP to return, anyway.

Nope. We're not moving him unless we get a "top line scoring winger" type package back, because that's what he's historically been. We're basically playing with house money with his situation; either we're getting that player or we just move on from him when his contract expires. There's no rush.

Well you're definitely not getting that so I guess you'll have to just let him walk. Also have to hope he doesn't ask for a trade or his value goes down even further.

1) He's got two more years on his deal, we aren't worried. 2) If he asks for a trade (which there's no indication he has or will): see 1).

Worst case is we get another year and a half and move him at the 2026 TDL half-retained.
