Terrible idea for ANA. Marner is exactly what Verbeek doesn't like

I don’t even think they’d move this package for a top player lol. This is a lot for a team to give up

1. There is no Marner trade that is both realistic and will satisfy Leafs fans.

2. I think it would look more like a couple of guys like Lacombe, Colangelo, Lunueau, Gaucher with Vatrano and 2nd or Strome and EDM 1st.

3. See number 1

Tkachuk was RFA willing to sign long-term in handful of locations…but would have signed QO if sent elsewhere.

Marner is 1-year from UFA…and can block a trade anywhere.

(Also stylistically very different players)

Not a great comp.

If anything, Marner is the Huberdeau in that trade. So that means if a team was willing, TOR could package Marner, with a good pick/prospect, alongside another very good roster player, and they could grab an elite RFA

Tkachuk was only going to sign long term with 4 teams, kind of like if Marner were to get traded; he'd have a list of teams he'd waive for...

And the diff between Marner and Spezza isn't as big as the difference between Tkachuk and Marner (at the time)

I think it's a fair comp to use, especially bc Tkachuk actually started to show up in the playoffs after the trade

3 major differences between Tkachuk and Marner:

1. Tkachuk was 24 at the time of the trade Marner will be 27, that does play in a bit
2. Tkachuk was an RFA, Marner will be a UFA in a year
3. Tkachuk is a power forward and extremely good playoff performer and super clutch player, while Marner doesn't have any true "extra factors", yes he's skilled, but he isn't a game-breaker like Tkachuk is

No, he wasn't...

Tkachuk's PPG (up until these playoffs) were significantly below Marner's... Tkachuk also had less of the 'other stuff' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6JoXgkDtjM

Also, Tkachuk was threatening to walk after 1 year and gave a list of teams that he'd sign a longterm deal for... That' like an NMC...

Another good comp could be PLD but Marner's significantly better than PLD
