I think Toronto would want retention on Jones, I don't know if Chicago would be willing.
People hate on Jones but, averaged 25+ minutes a night on the 2nd worst team in the league with the 4th most goals against absolute last goals for and was only -15, I think there is reason to be optimistic he'd very good with a better team around him
The jokes thing is Toronto's problem in the playoffs this year wasn't defense or goaltending but offense
Really? You hate Jones and his contract? Fine. But why give up a legit #1 RD w/ 6 years of term for a one year rental? Jones may be overpaid but how does this deal help the Hawks? They don't need the cap space. Losing Jones and adding Marner probably makes the Hawks no better overall. Improves the top line but leaves a huge hole in their D.
Unfortunately I've read it on BR and somewhere else that I can't remember.
Ah. Yeah, BR is garbage anyway. Most sports publications and "reporters" these days are just about content creation and generating interactions, and most of the people working there are meat heads. I'd take that with a grain of salt, for sure. But the idea is out there in the ether, and sometimes those types of narratives are based on some level of truth or have a way of manifesting into reality simply by making people think about it and talk about it.
I guess we'll see. If CHI does have some level of interest, which every team should to a certain point, I hope they aren't willing to spend very much on him.

CHGO Sports podcast talked about it and they were for the deal. But I think Top Pair RD is harder to fill. Even if Jones is not a top RD in the league. He is definitely good enough to be a top 30 RD IMO.
RD locked up for multiple years >>> Scoring winger for 1 year. From the Hawks perspective.
Fair enough, I think Chicago has a strong enough appeal (less pressure but still a strong fanbase and promising looking future) to convince Marner to stay long term and I wouldn't be worried if I was Davidson.
Marner is a top 5 playmaker, top 10 at worst and the franchise has an all world talent and sniper in Bedard and a league worst goals for.
Not sure about RHD but, I've seen so many Chicago fans preach about how great the D prospect depth is I thought they wouldn't mind losing Jones

The depth is all on the left side right now. They don't have anyone close on the right side. Jones plays top pair minutes and the hole would be too massive to patch.
