Yeah, I was over the limit. Personally I would like to hang onto him, but if you want him go for it.

Patrick Maroon is being shopped. I would like a 2018 3rd + 2019 or 2018 5th, however I will listen on other offers.

He's eligible for the 2018 draft so most likely no.

"All players who will be 18 years old on or before September 15 and not older than 20 years old before December 31 of the draft year are eligible for selection for that year's NHL Entry Draft. In addition, non-North American players over the age of 20 are eligible."

@GronkNation

He's 20 years old. The eligibility for European skaters is 18-21 therefore he is eligible to be drafted coming entry draft.

Seems the most popular phrase in this game is........"Id need more". Seems like no matter what or who the deal is, the answer is always I'd need more. Is there no other GM who just wants to make deals just to make deals? I could understand if there were some huge prize at the end of the year, but reality is there isn't. The game resets and we all start over. I've gotten criticized and ridiculed for "over paying" in the deals I've made, but honestly those deals wouldn't have happened if I didn't agree to adding whatever the other guy said he needed. And of course it wasn't until after that I learned of how the established GM's take advantage of the rookies so now I'm stuck in a situation where no matter who I inquire about to make a deal on the answer is....."I'll need more". Right now I'm working with a 4 to 1 ratio. If I want 1 player the starting price is 4 pieces in return. And I'm not even talking about guys who in real life would get that.

I know you're frustrated, as you should be. You inherited a shitshow, and there's been multiple instances of GMs trying to take advantage of you (one of which was successful). The best advice I can give is to be resilient. If you think you're overpaying in a trade, that's a clear signal that it might not be the best idea to proceed. You also do have some legitimately good pieces that you can parlay into other things. Taboo has done quite well with NYI after his disastrous first stint, so if you stay patient, you should be able to succeed as well. I don't think we can outright stop people from pushing the new guys around, but you do have that power. If you sense someone is trying to take advantage of you, just decline and look for a better option. It can only get better from here.

Never pay more than you are prepared to. You have to be willing to walk away from any negotiation if the other party is asking for too much.

Edit: You might want to consider limiting negotiations to the forum as well. It's easier to be taken advantage of and coerced into a trade in private. People started doing it because they didn't want other GMs to see their offers and outbid them.

I know this is just a game but i never make deals just to make deals, because if someone wants more than you want to give up, i'd suggest that you maybe see if they'll take less, and if they won't, then just skip the deal. As much as this game is all about having fun and it just a game, i still don't make deals just to make deals.

Ok general question regarding contract extensions that were signed IRL. If the player signed an extension in IRL after 9/15 (which is when the game started?) then that extension does not exist in our game?

Example: Josh Manson

He signed his extension on 10/4/17, but because it was after the start of the game, that deal does not exist. so If i wanted to sign him to an extension (whenever the BOE/G allows that), I'm not obligated to sign him to that extension? I can sign him to a different deal if I choose?

Does the same rule apply to unsigned prospects who were drafted by a team, but didn't sign with said team until after the game started?

Example again: Jaret Anderson-Dolan (signed after 9/15). So technically he's an unsigned prospect still. (i think the guy before me actually signed him, but i'm not sure).

Sorry if this is a little confusing. I guess i'm trying to get clarification about contract extension IRL vs. in the game.
