Some additions
my thing is, does this team deserve to be upgraded. My thinking is Trev saw what dubas did with all the draft picks and doesn’t wanna make the same mistake if the team doesn’t prove if they are a Stanley Cup contender. And realistically we have improved that one bit this whole year. I think this off-season will truly be a big one for us. I really think Mitch is going to be traded this off-season. Especially if we end up losing in the first round again unlike last year, I think Trev makes a smart decision, and finally moves one of the core four

Canucks easily decline. Klingberg is not worth anything at this point, and the last thing the Canucks need is more offensively-minded defencemen.

Leafs TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AV12</b></div><div>Id honestly take that deal, as a ducks fan has Henrique been playing C or LW more this season, same with Kulikov can he actually play the right side?</div></div>
Kulikov has been playing Fowler's right side the past few games and has looked good there. Value for value, he really has been our best defender this season (not that that's saying much, of course) -- so good we may try to re-sign him instead of trading him at the deadline.
Henrique can play LW with Zegras or alternate back and forth at C with McTavish. One of the advantages to acquiring him is insurance against losing Bunting to free agency; with retention he'd be cheaper than re-upping Kerfoot and he'll probably be cheaper than Bunting even if Bunting stays.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AV12</b></div><div>I gotchu, what u think a Buchnevich deal looks like tho, or u think thats a non-starter for STL management</div></div>
If I was the GM I'd be engaging on anyone not named Thomas or Kyrou. I'm not sure (in fact I sincerely doubt) the actual management feels the same way.
But if they are, I think for Buchnevich you're looking at a 1st and Knies, at a minimum. They don't HAVE to trade him, so there's no pressure like there would be with their rentals, so they can ask for the moon.
Really depends on how quickly the Blues think they can turn this ship around. If they think they just need another year to ship out some contracts, then they might keep and extend him. If they think it's going to take longer...as much as I love Buchnevich (and I truly do) you have to wonder if it makes sense to keep him around for all that.

No I didn't see that, that would have made me reconsider.
Maybe it's true that they won't. Maybe it's true O'Reilly won't get more. I don't know anything. Just taking shots in the dark.

Not to say Pulijarvi or Duclair have huge (or even good) value, but these guys are thrown into deals like they are actually worth something.

Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AV12</b></div><div>You don’t see Reilly as a negative asset for Bruins at this point tho? That was the logic behind the deal since Reilly counts as 2mil against theyre cap in the minors retaining the mil wouldn’t hurt them at all. Also what do you think Horvat gets for a return? Lehkonen got a 2nd plus A prospect ontop of 50% retention.</div></div>
Reilly has played 10 games in BOS and at 3mil they'd love to move him, VERY similar to Engvall, really EQUAL to engvall, but you want them to retain and add Smith?
Lehkonen was a talented guy, but debateable that he had a bigger upside offensively, he was largely a 3rd liner with meh stats and an eatable cap hit. Horvat at a 2.75mil cap hit retention is twice as much and hes the more established player. Kerfoot has negative value to VAN as an expiring UFA, and really it comes down to what you think of Hirvonen. Hirvonen alone gets you the cap retention and entices VAN to take Kerfoot, (IMO the retention is worth a 2nd, so Hirvonen = a 2nd and the negative adding of Kerfoot), but the late in the round 1st probably isn;t enough for Horvat.
Leafs are the buyers and don't have the leverage, especially without cap space and tradeable, young-ish roster players to entice non-contenders. You can call these GMS and make those offers, but theyre easily beaten. Dubas doesn;t have magic dust to fool these other GMS into accepting below market offers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AV12</b></div><div>Burns returned a 3rd, Bjorkstrand returned a 3rd+4th, dermott returned a 3rd last year in the exact same scenario. I’m not saying the team is Nashville, but considering Kerfoot is cheaper than all the players you listed, his market value is set at a 3rd that is the discount.</div></div>
Burns & Bjorkstrand are both much more valuable players than Kerfoot - he's a 40 point player who had a spike to 50 playing on a line with Tavares & Marner. He scored less points (as a forward) than Brent Burns did (as whatever hybrid F/D he is), and Oliver Bjorkstrand had more than double the amount of goals that he did. If those two dudes only brought back the equivalent of a 3rd/4th (Burns was a 3rd & Steven Lorentz), why would Kerfoot come close to that deal when he's clearly less productive?
Also: don't know if you just glossed over it but Dmitry Kulikov costs less than Kerfoot ($2.25M AAV) and he was let go for FC. I'd argue that he's probably the best comp for Kerfoot - a middle-6/middle-pair type of guy on a mid-tier salary coming off a solid, if not spectacular season.
I just don't see a 3rd coming back for him, based on the values we've seen this summer. I'm not saying it's impossible, but there's very few suitors left that have the cap space for him and he's got a 10-team NTC that probably knocks out half those guys. And I just don't see Alexander Kerfoot as a guy that you do cap gymnastics to squeeze onto your roster.

Not sure there's any point in trading for JP if you're signing Nichushkin. Very similar players except one is just a much better version of the other. Although, I do think it's entirely possible for JP to reach his full potential and become another Nichushkin. Regardless, I think it would be wise to have a different "type" of player.

Good think you qualified that Muzzin trade in the Team Explanation.
I think that in any Muzzin trade, you'd be taking significant cap back. But I doubt that you'd be getting as useful a player as Matt Roy. Joel Armia or Zack Kassian seems about right, but I don't think that either team is interested in Muzzin or that he would waive for Edmonton or Montreal.

Askarov is still a couple years out from being NHL ready, and Toronto is in win now mode, how does this make them any better now? The leafs 2nd line wouldn't score if Nylander wasn't there, and there's no options in free agency to replace his scoring output. Forsberg will get extended, Burakovsky doesn't drive plays like Nylander, I highly doubt Giroux has any interest in TOR, options are limited.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AV12</b></div><div>True, LTIR is quite confusing so I probably do not understand it fully. Like I dont understand how last year we had like 8-10mil on LTIR with Clarkson and Horton.</div></div>
There are a number of fans that seems to think LTIR is some sort of cheat code. In reality, you don't want to be consistently living on LTIR. Mostly for the reason that cap space will accrue over the course of the season (why is a big reason why the Leafs couldn't add help at the deadline last year).
Unless you're stealing a useful player from another team, taking on an LTIR contract from another team is a very bad idea. Taking the Hossa contract for getting a deal on Kuempfer? Maybe. Taking Kessler in a deal for Manson? Sure. But other than that....

Maybe Lehtonen on the right side? and then you use Sandin-Holl, Muzz-Lehtonen, Rielly-Hamonic?</div></div>
Lehtonen was regarded as the best non NHL defenseman last year. I’d say the lineup you made with Lehtonen out with Muzzin is a fair one

2nd Round Exit this year
The Hossa Contract would be very bad for Toronto this year. Dubas stated that he would like some cap flexibility throughout the season, and cap space can accrue as much as 4x throughout the season. If the Leafs were left with 500K at the start of the year, they could have 2M by the deadline to add a depth piece if there's an injury or hole of some nature, or trade a bigger piece (like kerfoot) and add a 5M player.
