Surprised you think so, they are handing out 4mil contracts to everyone to reach the cap floor. Salary will not hurt them plus a good locker room guy and enforcer for a rebuilding team, kinda like matt Martin on the leafs in the early days.

Leafs Vancouver Trade

I mean he’s already not seeing the ice right now, as a pure salary dump move for the Jackets does this not make sense? They save 1+ a year for 3 years and leafs get a defender to play while they’re injured. I just think back to the Arizona trade for Timmins where leafs gave an AHL 4th line C. Peeke is not good either it’s just cbj has 8 defenders

As a leafs fans very interesting trade, panarin is probably the better player but in terms of need, Leafs need a centre way more, even if Oreilly does come back not sure he’s an elite 2C anymore.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mikej</b></div><div>leafs play a run and gun trade chances kind of game , with average or below goaltending and a defence that is average at best on paper , they are benefiting for a few players having a good year . at any time they can produce a 7-6 game . the bruins play a calm structured methodical system with a very strong d and great goal tending . the bruins are built from the net out and have been for several years . the leafs are built front heavy . case in point the bruins just won 4 straight and to be quite honest they didn't deserve to win any of them. the bruins 4,5,6,7 d men would be top pairing on the leafs . they're not built the same and to think that we would pay to take on 2 mediocre players that wouldn't play in bostons lineup all while giving a division rival cap relief is ludacris</div></div>
Bro you literally do not watch the leafs… they don’t play run and gun haven’t since 2018..Matthews is having a down year, Rielly down year, leafs are better defensively ( 4th in GA) than they are offensively this year ( 7th GF ). Again I agree Boston is the better team… I also know this is a stupid trade and the leafs would never do it. you’re just wrong about the leafs and know nothing about hockey.

I know im not debating Boston has best D in the league this trade is clearly stupid as hell and most likely a troll. Your first comment said the leafs win games 7-6 😂 which is not true at all... they have the 4th best defence in the league this year and just added Schenn(leading NHL D in hits) and Mccabe.

Boston has lowest goals against per game and the leafs are fourth….clearly you don’t watch hockey

That’s not at all how it works, if you buy out Vrana the he counts for 1.4M on the cap in the 23-24 season and then 1.9M in the 24-25 season. Retaining 50% and getting a 3rd is the better choice vs a buyout.

all these moves just to make the leafs worse. Garland is not worth the price difference from Kerfoot, let alone giving up Engvall and a draft pick for him.

I said in another comment above why I feel the O'Reilly will fetch more and why the Leafs might be the team to do it.</div></div>
Maybe it's just poor timing from your post, but dubas said the exact opposite in his conference today. Essentially saying hes not trading a first / top prospect for any rental. Also said he would consider moving prime assets for a long term piece that makes the team better as a whole.

You say all that about tarasenko justifying the value, but then somehow trade O'Reilly to the leafs for a much more significant return than tarasneko 😂 O'Reilly injured, older, and worse yet somehow you think he fetches a top prospect and a first along with Kerfoot who has more points last year than Blais whole career.

That's honestly the best package STL would get for him, no one is going to pay more than a 2nd round pick, so a good 2nd round talent prospect like Hirvonen and a 3rd for no retention is unreal value.

Yea I get it. More of a reflection of how Florida needs to trade someone assuming healthy and how low Pulijarvis value is once edmonton is healthy too. Both teams need to make a move to be cap compliant if they don’t have lti

You're close in value for the players possibly, but not the retention. And theres not enough "meat" for any of those teams to accept, rather than get other (and better) offers.
The BOS deal: sure BOS would love to move Reilly, but eat 1mil and ADD Smith to the deal, for just taking back an equally overpaid/underachieving Engvall?</div></div>
You don’t see Reilly as a negative asset for Bruins at this point tho? That was the logic behind the deal since Reilly counts as 2mil against theyre cap in the minors retaining the mil wouldn’t hurt them at all. Also what do you think Horvat gets for a return? Lehkonen got a 2nd plus A prospect ontop of 50% retention.

They quite literally could not be worse trade partners. Weird, and kinda baffling take. Those two GMs wouldn’t even contact each other.</div></div>
Dude, Muzzin is all but confirmed done for the season leafs have 5 mil ltir space to work with. Contenders make trades with each other all the time, look at Minnesota and Colorado last year. Leafs already could’ve had Reilly for free if they weren’t maxed on contract spots.
