Panthers get a top 4 dman with good upside, Avs get a solid mid-6 C at a fair cap hit. The auxiliary pieces can be added but yeah exactly, skeleton of the deal

Kings Playoff Push
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>And how do you know he still has high value? He's played 8 of Ontario's 17 games this year, and played 35 games all of last year. He can't stay on the ice, and when he does, it's not like he's dominating. He's not playing poorly, but it's not what you'd expect from a 21 year old 5th overall pick. To say that he still has high value but the value of Provorov and Hart is so diminished is just inconsistent.</div></div>
This is like a common fallacy in most sports circles that people go "first round pick" as an absolute value. He was a top 10 pick less than 3 years ago, he still has clear value. He's not worth a "top 10 value" anymore, but if he was a 25th overall pick, people wouldn't be so reactionary about him. Good example: look at what Alex Nylander got in a trade after being pretty good in the AHL and bad in the NHL. Turcotte arguably has better stats than he did, as well.
Philly is totally hamstrung on the blue line with their contracts, Provorov alone is likely not worth more than an early 2nd at this stage with his money. Hart as well is playing well, but 2 years ago he was arguably the worst goalie in the league and not great last year at all. I'd argue this deal is much more risky from LA's side than Philly's side in the end.

Should rephrase that to say "add some offensive life to Nashville's bottom 6". Jeannot is a good energy player, but doesn't contribute offensively at all.

Turcotte still has high value to most teams based on age/draft position, so if you go 2 first, 2 seconds, a legit NHL d-man, and a cap dump goalie, it's not so far off. Provorov's value is very diminished from where he was a couple years ago and I don't see it going up too much more.

They both have one year left. I think Engvall would be more likely to stick around with the Canucks after this season anyways and command much less money. I also think Leafs would rather ride with Engvall. In the end, it's just a cap balancing act for whoever goes out.

Maybe they should spend more time working the concessions to actually earn those big contracts cause they're play sure hasn't been worth it. Boldy was hot for like 3 games then fell off a CLIFF! If you have a 10 point game and then don't score for 19 straight, your 0.5 P/GP is fraudulent. Kaprizov is good, but someone has to play defense for this team, and it won't be him. Get a few bigger guys like Nemalainen, Middleton, and Cizikas to kick the other teams ass. You can't make an omlete without cracking a few eggs :tearsofjoy

Why would Anaheim trade the 3rd overall pick for RFA Fiala and Jost? Makes absolutely no sense.
Your starting goalie is Mrazek and his backup is a 36 year old that hasn’t played pro hockey this year except for 4 AHL games where he got lit up? Good luck with that.
You also signed Bozak until he’s 40.
Avs trade is weird too. Can’t see the Avs being too interested in 3 years of Jon Merrill. Minnesota probably wants to hold on to any NHL bodies making around a million.
Also, you do all this cost cutting and then trade for a $2.5M 4C with Cizikas? Odd.</div></div>

You guys are not only wrong, but also incorrect. The Wild cannot build around Tyson Jost and Dmitry Kulikov. Changes must be made to shake up the core. A guy like Mason McTavish is the ultimate buy low candidate. Anaheim risked it going 3 years on a guy with ZERO NHL experience, and had to send him to JUNIORS this year... Kevin Fiala is a former first round pick with multiple 60 point seaons under his belt. I get it's a bit much for a guy like that, but he has some upside. It's a chance for them to start over in 2-4 years and become actual contenders for once

I think both trades provide a good balance for both teams. Eichel probably won't fetch much more than this, Rossi has had his health issues similar to Eichel so it makes sense too. Fleury's stock has dropped a lot and was nearly a free asset from Carolina anyways, the picks are more valuable, and Soucy isn't terrible, just a tough cap hit

Loui's cap hit is nearly twice his actual pay and is a good bottom 6 defensive forward. Jaros isn't much more than a depth guy, probably an 7th/8th d-man at best and the 5th is just a throw in that can be removed. It's mostly a nothing trade that replaces a contract since OJ is ready for NHL minutes at this point

What? Sergachev has been sheltered and has no contract, and will undoubtably ask far too much for the Jets. Throw on Johnson who is all but a negative asset and you're thinking that that could be enough to get a perennial 50 goal scorer (I know he hasn't hit 50 yet but he might as well have)? This AGM fails, try harder pal

Bergevine at it again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>Both Barzal & Domi cost more. Detroit isn’t taking Hickey for a late round pick upgrade. The problem with Detroit’s defense is they have enough bottom pairing/press box guys but lack quality top 4 guys outside Hronek.</div></div>
If Hickey doesn't play half the season, Detroit gets a 5th this year for taking $2.5M in meaningless cap space that they can easilly afford. If he does play, I think upgrading a future pick is worth it. Hickey is also due a $1.25M bonus this year, so if Montreal waits until FA to make the move, it could make sense. To be fair, there was many reasons why Hickey didn't play this reason than just poor play. He's probably a bottom pair guy but dealt with injuries, Toews/Dobson getting spots, and the death of his brother. I think it's a low risk trade for detroit and at best they could flip him the year after for a 4th or 3rd. At worst, he does nothing and gets buried.

He's a great playmaker, good skating, great vision, smooth hands. He's not an elite defender by any means and hasn't shown he is actually a legit, true #1C. He's only 22 so you're paying for upside but if the Islanders can't sign him, Lou will want to replace him with someone who will fit in with the team (Danault). I'm curious how much more you think the Habs would have to pay for him while taking on a cap dump

The thing with Kapanen is most people agree it was a clear overpayment, but his contract is pretty good and he'd be a year younger than Domi, if that makes a difference. Based on the fact Domi hired Ferris and fired his previous agent who was buddies with Bergevine, I think his time in Montreal is up or he's gonna be asking way too much with term from them. That's just my opinion, I could be totally off but that's how I've interpreted it

A second that is early 30s is practically a first. I imagine Domi is mostly on the outs with the Habs and not many teams are gonna meet his demands with the flat cap. Buffalo is defintiely getting a deal with this trade. Might be 2 2nds rather than a 2nd and 4th but I'm honestly not too sure how to value Domi right now. I do think he gets traded though

Kiefer Bellows isn't great and probably won't cap off as much more than a bottom 6 power forward. Hickey is a straight cap dump and Lou would much rather have the tangible asset of Danault rather than some draft picks via offer sheet. The 16th overall in this draft could be comparable to a top 10 in most other drafts due to the depth and Danault himself is a solid 2C who is elite defenisvely with 50+ point upside. I don't think it's ridiculous ask. Barzal is probably a 1C, but he's definitely on the low end of that considering his drop in production since Tavares left. He's still young so he can defintiely get better, but I don't see him being much more valuable than say Duchene who was traded for a first, a B+ (at best) prospect, a 2C, a cap dump, and a third.

I feel like that's an overpayment for Domi who's an RFA and on the outs with the Habs. I also don't think Nuke takes a 1 year, he probably wants a bit more security than that. You're also not gonna want to run Hammer on the top pair since he's basically made of glass at this point and needs to be sheltered
