Agree, and Bowey needs to show something or there could be a deadline deal for a defenseman. Also, Stephenson played well at wing and don't think they are going to take him off there so Boyd or Dowd will be your 4C w/ Connelly and DSP as your wings. Stephenson and Bura played on the 3rd w/ Eller and looked good during the playoffs. Maybe there is a small tweak in there but it's nice to see young guys brought in to provide energy and prove their worth. That talent was buried for a long time.

Ugh Orpik is back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MK57</b></div><div>I mean, it worked out alright last year, right? I think this is a great deal!</div></div>
Seriously. I get the hate for Orpik when he was tying up $5.5m per year but this deal is 1x$1m to be the 7D and continue to mentor Djoos and Bowey but also provide grit and leadership in the locker room. We still have ability to make a move before the deadline if we need help on the back end but this will be a good way to help see what we have in Bowey and maybe guys like Siegenthaler or Johansen.

The last rumor I heard was the Caps offered Wilson 6 yr $27m w/ AAV of $4.5m so this would be about right for him but Willy may be holding off for less term to bank on himself hitting FA sooner. If we give him fewer years, Caps won't go higher on AAV. Bowey though, I agree. He won't get more than $1m IMO

Trading Bura
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>O my gosh no! How many times do I have to tell you people: stop trading Bura for absolutely nothing! We have the cap space. Keep him. He's a young top 6 forward with speed, skill, and high hockey IQ. You don't just get rid of those guys.
He's going to have a killer season this year. 50 points I bet. His biggest issue is health because every time he plays well and gets going he gets hurt which f's with his consistency which f's with his head. He already said he's getting to gloves that have caused 2 of the injuries and seeing a sport psychologist. Kid is going to be a beast next season.</div></div>
I agree, I don't think people should be so quick to trade him. He has one year left so let's see if we can get a full season out of him and what that looks like. Ovi took steps last offseason to prepare his body and that worked. Bura is taking steps to take care of his body and his mind. If it doesn't work, then we move on. But we're not in a cap bind right now. If he gets hurt again, we have Walker and Gersich who should both see some solid playing time. With those guys waiting in the wings, Bura could have a very good year because of those guys breathing down his neck. If we need flexibility at the deadline and he's still not producing, then we can look to trade him at that point.

Taking Shape - Low Risk Moves Left
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Curious to see whether Copley and Samsonov together are good for as many games as Grubauer. Having one of the best backups in the league brought Holtby into the playoffs fresh and ready to win. In past years he's been so busy trying to prove he's the starting goalie throughout the regular season that by the time the playoffs rolled around, he was in pain and ineffective. Same thing forced Fleury out of Pittsburgh. Losing a center who can win 60% of his faceoffs, take 75% of them behind the red line, and still have an average-range plus/minus is pretty significant. Losing a backup who plays 35 games is pretty significant. The other teams will be thinking about how to improve. Washington should be, too. Giving Kempny 10M for one assist is a nail in their chances for 2019.</div></div>
Would it be fair to think the Caps see Kempny on the rise based on how he played after coming over and getting a full offseason+regular season with Reirdon? He's said he credits TR to him turning his game around. I agree on the backup G aspect, would like to see someone like Khudobin(?) who did well in BOS last year come in and give Samsonov time to develop. I don't believe Copley can fill Gruby's role

we not gonna be suck this year pt 2
I think the hometown discount for Carly is gonna be 8yr $7.5 mil but will really depend on what AZ just gave OEL. You can take that extra $500k and give it to DSP. Connelly got $1.5m after last year and DSP can make the argument he was more valuable than Connelly was. But this is going to be pretty accurate IMO. Only concern is if the cap actually goes up to $81. I think $79 or $80 may be more realistic though they do need to make up for the weak bump last year.

Replace Merrill in that trade w/ either Theodore or McNabb and WSH might consider. No to Merrill though. Either way, I think a WSH/VGK trade involving picks and a d-man is going to happen. VGK has to move someone...

Agree about Schmidt but they still have so many d-men...buyout period has passed but if any of the RFA's are arbitration eligible then it opens up a 2nd buyout period for the team. If they can fit all the RFAs in under the cap even w/ arbitration, probably makes sense just to keep Orpik at this point...

I think you are giving up too much to shed Orpik's contract. Would be better to just buy him out if we are gonna give up our 1st Rd next year too. Burky probably will get a 2 yr/>$3m deal similar to what Kuzy got on his last contract. Still has to prove himself since he disappeared for a good chunk of the early season. Overall though this is pretty close to what the team will look like as I do think they will get Osh back

Agreed Alzner is gone. He deserves the big contract he's gonna get, just won't come from the Caps. Love what he did for the organization but he's just not what the league is transitioning too. He'd be a bottom pair w/ us and other teams are gonna give him top 4 money I'm sure.
In terms of Oshie, it's his last big contract but he also came out and said he loves DC, his family loves DC, he hates to pick up and move and loves the guys in the locker room. Either his agent came out and slapped him in the face after that interview or he meant it which means as long as the Caps don't low-ball him and offer him something less than what he was making on his last contract, I see him staying for less than what other teams will offer.

That's a roster of 18 with about 11.5m to spend. Back up goalie 1m, Alzner 5m, vet Dman 1.5m. that's 7.5m with 4 m for two utility forwards.</div></div>
Yea, should have been more clear about that part...VGK would only take Orpik along w/ some picks or a couple prospects. They aren't taking him alone, haha!!! Alzner isn't getting $5m from us so I'm not worried about that. He's been solid for us for years but it's time to move on from him. He's earned a big contract and we can't give it to him.

Big time Boston trade
We can get more from AZ than a 5th. I know they are taking Orpik but Grubauer is worth a 1st alone so a compromise might be at least a 2nd since they have 2 1st rd picks. I've had them taking Orpik for a 3rd since he's a valuable veteran leader for a young team

Dropping Down / Grubauer / Petrovic / Marleau
I think if Vegas takes Grubauer they are taking him to be their goalie of the future, if not the present. You might be able to trade picks to WSH directly though if they are able to sway Vegas to take picks to not touch any of their players. Vegas will probably be trading veterans they sign for picks and not young up and comers...just my opinion. Lots of moving parts with this whole expansion thing, should be interesting.

Less than what he was making before maybe. For him it's not all about money. Says he's not a guy who likes to move, family loves DC, he loves what he has in WSH and understands the situation. At his age, I don't think $5m per is that out of the question. Even if another team offered him $6m, I don't think he'd leave
