Imoing to assume save percentage, GAA, and Ws are the key point getters in your league. If that’s the case then I’d go with Varlamov to replace Hutton.
Trotz’s system tends to make goalies look good and I’m sure Varlamov will benefit from that.

I meant the other way. You will end up with 23+ counting against the cap. Saying that 22 fits under the cap is meaningless.

I think he’ll get his 9 games in the NHL before they decide what to do with him. He can’t play in the AHL, so it’ll either be NHL or back to London

Lines are a bit of a mess here. Most glaring is Kane is not playing on the 2nd line as Cat - Strome - Kane is a nightmare for the Hawks defense.
Saad (Caggs, Kubalik, Nylander, Sikura) - Toews - Kane
Cat - Strome - Shaw/Saad (need defensive play)
Kubalik - Kampf - Perlini (Sikura, Nylander)
Caggs (Perlini) - Smith - Carpentar
Keith - Gus
De Haan - Murphy
Maatta - Seabs

This is an OK team if PLD can take the next step in his development. Their season success likely depends on Elvis being the real deal. If he doesn't work out, at least they have a ton of cap space to acquire an established 1G midway through the season.

No need to waste a year or two on Zegras' ELC by signing him now. He's going to college for a couple of years. Save the term on his contract and sign him when makes the move from the NCAA to the AHL.

In the trade above it mentions extensions so I was basing it off of that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vic997</b></div><div>So you have no problem paying Tavares $11m into his 30s, but Taylor Hall is out of the question?</div></div>
Tavares was a year younger which makes it better. I do have strongly mixed feelings about that contract but I also think Tavares is more valuable than Hall as well. He's a centre and has been far more durable. Tavares's game is also not based on speed so losing a half step doesn't affect his game as much. I do think towards the end of the contract Tavares could be a very high priced 3C but he'll also always have Matthews ahead of him so if he starts declining he can be sheltered more and potentially still be effective in a reduce capacity. I think Hall will be the last guy in his late 20's to get a max term deal though. He's just a perfect storm for a contract that will look extremely bad very quickly, just due to his style of play and past injury issues.

This is a very interesting trade! If I could give it 5 stars I would.
If I were TOR I'd also ask NJ to eat half (or at least some) of Hall. It's just 1 year, but that 1 year means a lot more to TOR than NJ.

I don't agree with many on here saying Gardiner isn't good. He's more than fine for a 2-3rd pairing d man. a 1-2 year deal with 4-5 mil in $ is perfectly reasonable. It literally cannot get any worse than JJ. I've seen the back-end of Scuderi and even he wasn't as bad as JJ.</div></div>
To be honest Tanev plays the same role as Rust but he doesn’t score goals and is less versatile.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vic997</b></div><div>Moving Johnson is ideal. Gudbranson should be kept for the season coming but moved during the next offseason to make room for RFA signings and chucky deal.
Ideally, we should try to move hornqvist as well but I'm perfectly fine with keeping him.
The problem GMJR created is that he added unnecessary players to the bottom-six group while completing forgeting his d-core is aging and beyond the top-pair, it really needs work.
Sure, gardiner is injury-prone, but he sure is better than JJ.
By signing him, you have guys who can move the puck on each defensive unit (Letang, Schultz, Gardiner) which is key to have in the way Pens generate offense.
Also, I love Rust but no way is he worth a first AND a second?
A second at best + maybe a C prospect</div></div>
The 3 puck mover system is ideal especially since the 3 other defenseman are of a decent skill level. I think you’re spot on about Rust though...worth a late 2nd at the most but the team is more likely to get value out of him by making a player swap/hockey trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgfresh78</b></div><div>Only if his most common d-pairing isn’t Jack Johnson. If they keep deploying him with Johnson he’ll continue to look worse than he actually is.</div></div>
Yeah mosf statistics pointed out that every player’s performance suffered whenever they were on the ice with Jack Johnson. In his prime JJ was a solid 2 way player but the issue with him is that his speed and agility have diminished significantly. His decision making and positioning is trash cuz he always goes for unnecessary body checks, plus cannot move the puck out of the danger areas. It’s no coincidence that Malkin and Kessel became undisciplined midway through last season, they were probably fed up with having to play with such an incompetent defenseman. Last season, Johnson was on the ice for 65% if the goals allowed and only on the ice for 35% scored. Sometimes the numbers are misleading but when the margin is that big, it really says something about his performance. It would be idea if the Penguins can package him with a second round pick to anyone who would take him, and then sign Gardiner.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vic997</b></div><div>I tend to agree with you. Also adding to your point, Hornqvist's net front presence is best in the league.
But I just see him primed for a sharp decline (not his fault). Injuries have really been plentiful and unlucky for him last year.
Zucker is younger and has the potential for 60-70 pts (I don't think Hornqvist can do that anymore).
You have to take into account that Zucker has not had a Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin at his centre. He's had the likes of Michael Granlund and Eric Staal.
Zucker to pens makes them more competitive as Hornqvist is likely due for 3rd line minutes this year with ZAR and Simon fighting for a spot on Malkin or Crosby's wing. No offence to Hornqvist but the back-end of that deal is not good. Another big injury could derail Hornqvist an entire season. At some point, his health needs to be priority over playing.
Don't get me wrong, I love horn but if Minnesota is really moving Zucker for less than he's worth, Pens should be all in.
imo, i don't even think what I offered should even net Zucker (Considering they wanted Kessel at first)</div></div>
The Pens have seen a lot of "potential" came in and not deliver extra servings. The "He could get X points with Crosby or Malkin" has been said many times, baring no fruit. Since he is being discussed, even Hornqvist. If you look at his production in Nashville then his production with Crosby and Malkin... relatively flat.
One thing about Hornqvist is that his ... that what he does is not dependent on skill. Skill goes, skaters slow, reflexes dampen. Hornquist isn't a skill guy, he is not a fast guy, he is not a flash guy. What he does will only stop when an injury says, "that's it, yer dun!"
