(SJS/VGK) - Hertl, 2025 3rd (SJS), 2027 3rd (SJS) for Edstrom, 2025 1st (VGK)
With the Sharks retaining on Hertl until 2030 for Vegas, a division rival no less, they should 100% be receiving an Eichel-like return here.
When Buffalo gave Vegas just one 3rd round pick and sent Eichel and his entire 10 million dollar cap hit to Vegas, the Sabres got the following:
Alex Tuch
#17 overall pick from 2019 Peyton Krebs
#16 overall pick in 2022
#64 overall pick in 2023
When San Jose gave Vegas two 3rd round picks and sent a salary retained Hertl and a 6.75 million cap hit to Vegas, the Sharks got the following:
#32 overall pick from 2023 David Edstrom
Vegas' 1st round pick for 2025 because Vegas wants to keep their 2024 1st for when the draft happens at the Sphere.
And now, the Sharks can't retain salary on any player until the Summer of 2025.
And they are also only allowed 1 salary retention between the Summer of 2025 and the Summer of 2027.
This is unacceptable for the San Jose Sharks.
They deserve better.

(SJS/VGK) - Hertl, 2025 3rd (SJS), 2027 3rd (SJS) for Edstrom, 2025 1st (VGK)
Hertl will likely return to form on a better line.
Hanifin will be playing for his $70M retirement.
Mantha will be playing for one last overpayment.
Eichel can't stop proving the Buffalo media wrong.
Marchessault won't let anyone take his Conn Smyth.
Pietrangelo can finally stop carrying his pairs defense.
Theodore can slide down and play a more offensive role.
Stone will be rested and ready for game one of the playoffs.
If you're an Edmonton fan ... this trade's gonna Hertl.
If you're an Vancouver fan ... this trade's gonna Hertl Ott.

You say "often injured" like he isn't available to start 50+ games a season.
Mrazek, Murray, Lehner are examples of often injured goalies. Gibson goes on IR for a few games at a time a couple times a season to deal with wear and tear. His longest IR stint he got his wisdom teeth pulled.

Kane to co
This is weird:
Nuke is very good and you’re trading him for close to nothing. Ok, maybe you don’t trust him given the off-season he’s having and you’re using the cap dump to do something interesting?
Then you follow it up with Kane, a player already in steep decline, at $6.8M for THREE YEARS?! He’ll be 38 when that ends and it’s already an overpay today.
Donskoi missed the entire 2022-2023 season and only had 2 goals in the season immediately prior. If he doesn’t retire, the dude is a PTO candidate. Why is he getting two years of term?
Poolparty is the only one that makes sense here, and even then he’s out for a while getting a major hip surgery. Not sure what his timeline is, but safe to say that he’s a question mark also.

(BOS/CHI) - Foligno, Hall for Mitchell, Regula

Quoting: Ritzy

Why did Chicago give back anything when it is clear as day Boston needs to move a big contract?
Edit: I'm floored that so little people are calling this a win for Boston. Chicago gave back assets they didn't have to.

This is true. However, Mitchell and Regula are likely very good AHL Dmen and fringe NHL players. They're both young and might turn things around (a la Forsling) but Mitchell is an undersized, overhyped player. There's also the fact of contract limits. I didn't look but Hawks may need the contract space so they tossed in some freebies.

What message are you sending?
"We'll give you a chance to play top 6 minutes and show what you can do and then we'll work to send you somewhere you have a chance to win at the deadline. If things go well, you'll have the chance to prove to a team you're worth signing to a longer, more lucrative deal and perhaps win a Cup while you're at it."

Avs can get a wing cheaper somewhere else. Avs need center depth. Trading Newhook for a wing only makes that need more prominent.

Quoting: Anus_McLeod

It's obviously highly unlikely that the Avs look like this on opening night, but none of these guys are terrible or strictly boom or bust (like Yak). All of them are NHLers who have lost confidence and some scoring touch.
I'd have minimal worries about Mantha, Foote, and Yegor. Gurianov and Puljujarvi could crash and burn, but they can be buried if needed.

I dont think Yegor is a reclamation project, but Mantha, Foote, Gurianov, and Puljujarvi all have risks accociated with them imo. Besides Mantha all of the other guys you signed are cheap enough to not have a large impact if they dont work out but at that cap hit I still think there are better UFAs that could be signed that are more reliable. Mantha's 5.7M really limits what they can do at 2C if Newhook/Sharangovich dont step up, I think there are better ways to spend that $

Who wanted Drouin at the TDL? All those posts were from Montreal fans.
If he’s cheap and doesn’t require any assets to acquire, I’m down for a reclamation project.
