untrue, Oilers max cap hit next season is 81,604,000 due to the carryover bonuses and he has his cap set to the standard $82.5M so he would still need to stay 896K over the cap, Currently we are -400k on puckpedia with mcleod still to sing but on here capfriendly we still have 300k in cap space with Klef and smith on LTIR

we are NOT moving ceci. and edmonton has to stay 896k over the cap because of carry over bonuses from last year
that blue line is pretty bad

my guess at the opening night roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Scooter81</b></div><div>My guess for there opening night roster will be…
Kane - McDavid - Bourgault
Hyman - Draisaitl - Yamamoto
Holloway - Nugent-Hopkins - Puljujarvi
Janmark - McLeod - Ryan
Nurse - Ceci
Kulak - Bouchard
Broberg - Barrie
Campbell - Skinner</div></div>
I pray Bourgault impresses enough to get a shot with McDavid and moving RNH and Clouder to C makes the deep A LOT deeper, Mcleod would terrorize everyone else's 4th lines, Pretty solid line-up but im still scared of a broberg-barrie pairing if they look how they did last year

I think RNH plays on the wing with draisaitl for most of the year and Mcleod takes over that 3rd line, "the Spine" McD-Drai-Nuge-cloud would only come out against top teams with solid center depth.
playing Mcleod on the 4th all year would be waste and i think woodcroft wants to give him a bigger role, Woody has always pushed him into big moments in bakersfield and their relationship seems great

Have you seen the nhl market for cap dumps? Half the nhl couldn't even afford barrie even if we gave him away for free, I expect a $4.5M x 2 contract and $5M salary in 2023-24 would cost an arm and a leg especially since teams know we're in a cap pickle right now

Why are you so stuck in the old head ways of "run and gun, old tough boy hockey" look at the all smaller, smarter faster players becoming stars in the league today Makar, Hughes bro's, Gaudreau, zuccarello, marchard and Debrincat
Hockey is evolving just like every other major sport every few decades, Hockey is no where near the same as it was in the 80's when edmonton got their cups. Pick any players in the league today and send him back in time and watch him put up 150 PTS with ease. Get with the times or get left behind
You can't just run and gun every game hoping to out score everyone, look how far that got us vs the AVS we need more Defensive minded D-man and Wingers like ashton-resse or evan rodrigues our Offensive fire power is already top 3 in the league we just need to start shutting teams down and actually play defense to get to that next level

No Kessel
also Barrie got 21 of 41 points on the power play last year for 50% of his points last year and All of subban's 21 points came at 5 on 5 while 1 came short handed so the PP point % argument doesn't work.
Subban is just as productive 5 on 5 as barrie and has a slightly better defense + subban didn't have McDavid and Draisaitl to throw the puck to for free points (he had hughes but his isn't on the same level lol)

Guess how many Barrie has scored for his career on the PP? 40%. That’s basically the average for most defenceman who plays big PP minutes. Calling him a PP specialist is wrong when 60% of his points are coming 5 on 5. I guess the fancy numbers skipped that part?</div></div>
The thing is we don't need more offense with guys like McD, Drai, Kane, Yams and nuge or we don't need another PP QB bouch, nurse and broberg are all qualified to QB, we need D-men who will break even on goals for and goals against 5 on 5 which is something barrie couldn't do unless kulak baby sat him, I know subban isn't a defensive wizard but he is certainly better than barrie in his own end which is one of the areas we need to improve most, Tyson Barrie is a Defensive liability 5 on 5 which was another area of weakness last year our special teams were good enough for us to start the year last year HOT

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BouchBomb</b></div><div>If Edmonton did this trade and signed mcleod 1x1.175M (assuming he gets the same deal as yams/JP this would put us at -700K with a 22 man roster from Bouchard's 900k carry over bonus from last season paying a 3rd and 4TH for a player with some upside like foegele would just not be worth it IMO
If i was going to give up 2 high picks i'd give up a 2nd and 3rd to move barrie's contract out instead
Also foegele was not useless he just had bad puck luck all year Foegele-Mcleod-puljujarvi was one of our best line analytically vs the AVS with 62.75 CF%, 76.61xGF%, 73.68 SCF% and 100.00 HDCF(!!!) they couldn't finish (which is important i know) but they hemmed every line they played against in their own zone and really suppressed Colorado's quick transition offense whenever they hit the ice</div></div>
CF% = Corsi for %,
xGF% = Expected Goals for %
SCF% = 5v5 Scoring chances for %
HDCF% = 5v5 High Danger Chances for %
all of their numbers when all three were together were very elite which is a good thing

Foegele Plus for Johnson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Edmonton declines?
How can you claim to be an Oiler fan and be utterly ignorant of the cap problem you guys have?
This isn't an effort to bring in a winger for McDavid or Draisaitl -- it's an effort to be cap compliant and exchange a virtually useless third-liner for some cap space.
The whole reason why Foegele hasn't been traded yet is that no one has made Edmonton an offer this good, so that the Oilers can keep Barrie instead of having to find a replacement for him.</div></div>
If Edmonton did this trade and signed mcleod 1x1.175M (assuming he gets the same deal as yams/JP this would put us at -700K with a 22 man roster from Bouchard's 900k carry over bonus from last season paying a 3rd and 4TH for a player with some upside like foegele would just not be worth it IMO

everything i said is backed up by numbers and analytics, And analytics say Subban is more reliable defensively at 30% EV defense, 86% EV offense and 40% WAR while barrie has 6% EV defense, 18% EV offense and 21% WAR. All the numbers say subban > Barrie at 5x5 (all stats from Jfresh player cards) barrie is 100% the better PP QB but other than that subban's numbers are slightly better all around and at a fractions of the cost subban would be a better options than barrie on the 3rd pair with broberg. I'm not saying subban is the clear cut better player but at 1.5M-ish for 1 year he would be a great addition and help the cap situation next year when we have to sign JP, Bouchard, Skinner and potentially Mcleod is he signs a 1 year deal and we could fill that 3 RD with kemp or kesselring on ELC's instead of Barrie's $4.5M for the next 2 years. Ya get where i'm coming from??

is that why Colorado, Tampa, Florida, Maple Leafs and Carolina are running the NHL every year????? Analytics are the future of hockey just accept it. NBA, NFL and even the MLB is getting more and more involved with analytics because Numbers and facts > people's eye test and opinions, last 3 cup champs have been heavy analytical teams and it ain't no coincidence

EDM declines that's too much to dump foegele who is only 26 and still has some upside and johnson analytics are so bad 1% ev offense, 48% ev defense, 10% finishing, 6% WAR, I'm not familiar with johnson and haven't watch him play but those numbers scare me, Maybe if you took Barrie instead Edmonton would consider, His PK numbers look pretty alright

Subban is better and a more reliable at 5 on 5 than barrie, Barrie is just an overrated PP specialist that needs kulak or nurse to babysit him to put up somewhat "ok" numbers, Paying him 4.5M just to get out produced 5 on 5 by bouchard and Nurse has a better goals per/60 on PP1 + he is a defensive liability when he's not paired with kulak so literally anyone below 1.7M would be an upgrade because of how valuable cap space is
