They could trade Maatta.
Buyout Petry.
Walman makes a whopping 3.4 mil. 🤭
They're stuck with Holl. 😬
Plus Kane, Perron, Ghost, Sprong, Fischer, Reimer are off the books.
Most of the Red Wings money will be allocated for Seider and Raymond's raises.
They need to re-sign Rasmussen, Veleno and Berggren but that's chicken feed.
Cap goes up by 4.2 mil.
They'll get Vrana's retain money back.
Cheap ELCs Edvinsson and Mazur will be added.
Detroit can definitely sign Roy.
It's certainly not impossible. 🤭
</div></div>
It's not impossible - but that's a lot of moving parts. Priority for Wings is definitely Seider extension. Trading a player away and buying out another one - then they'll have to sign Roy AND get another NHL D. It's definitely possible, but there's no reason anyone should be looking at the Wings as big UFA players for a D.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SharkTank</b></div><div>Why would Michigan boy Matt Roy choose Ottawa over Detroit? 🤔</div></div>
Honestly home town / home state has not shown to be a major concern for most players, especially for their first UFA contract. Guys in their mid-30's? Sure.

Why are the Sens trading down to give the Oilers Kubalik?
It's only 6th round pick exchange, granted, but it definitely looks like the Sens pick will be higher than the Oilers....

Gotta say I don't hate the idea of going after Matt Roy in UFA.
Slight un-realism - I doubt that anyone will trade for Forsberg at his salary with the injuries, which probably means you can't sign Noesen & Silverberg.
Then you have to hope to get some good minutes out of a few of MacEwen, Kastelic, Crookshank, Jarventie, Boucher, Ostapchuk, Kelly & Chartier (I think Chartier and Kelly are candidates to re-sign)

But if that’s the price then NYR is out of the conversation. So the question is, where will he waive to? What are those destinations willing to part with?</div></div>
Or maybe he doesn't want to go anywhere and wants to sign in Ottawa. Or play out the year in Ottawa and then be a free agent again. We don't know - Tarasenko has set it up so he's got all the cards.

The Bruins have the fewest regulation losses in the league. They're first in the East, basically in a 3-way tie for 1st in the league. They're 6th in the league in goals scored.
Other Bruins fans drive me absolutely bonkers sometimes. The team has regressed from historically good last season to one of the best in the league this season, losing a hall of fame center, another amazing center & a past MVP to bring in basically veteran minimum players - and people can't stop complaining.
Enjoy the damn ride. They're amazing to watch.

I'm not sure why Ottawa wants TJ Brodie. I think you need to add more assets to get them to take on that cap hit for Toronto.
And a 1st 2 years from now isn't enough on its own for Chychrun.

I think the value tilts Calgary's way, but I think the Sens should do such a trade.
Too many 93) offense-first left shot D (not including Brannstrom in that - he's defense first, just on the small side) none of whom have had much success playing right side with others of that group.
Left side of Sanderson - Chychrun - Kleven, right side of Weegar - Zub - Brannstrom/Hamonic (you have to buy out Hamonic if he isn't on next year's roster - he has a 2 year NMC)

You would have to take another salary back as well with Ottawa. They are hard against the cap.

Chabot is on LTIR, but he's coming back. It's only temporary. They're going to have to trade someone already when Pinto comes off suspension, they had to play with 19 skaters first game of the season to be eligible for emergency call up next game.

Change the sens side of the trade from a 2nd to Domanik Kubalik with no retention and it's possible.
Sens can't absorb $2.5M in salary, has to be dollars in = dollars out.

Cheap Defensive Options
Jacob Bernard-Docker has been playing a lot of minutes with Chabot out. And not that badly, just a little miscast as top-pair. He's a better fit with Sanderson than Chychrun though, Chychrun needs Zub more than Sanderson does.
JBD was a low 1st pick a bunch of years ago, he's finally paying off. I don't know what the price of that is. I also don't know what they do when Chabot comes off LTIR, because I don't think JBD gets through waivers again after playing this well. So yea, a trade might be there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>Gotta be the jackets; just can’t come up with a scenario where Leafs trade with SENs</div></div>
If you can get assets for a player who's UFA after this season, go for it. The Sens likely aren't in competition with the Leafs this season.
The other thing is that not every trade has to be a present for futures trade. Both the Sens and the Blue Jackets have not been working out - a "hockey trade" makes sense for them.
The Leafs could conceivably be interested in Forsberg too, depending on what "week to week" really means. Enough goalies have played amazing after leaving the Sens......
