<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>However you slice it, they're paying him like he plays 18-19 for two more years. The Canucks have only about $25M next season to sign 10 players. Half the D are UFAs, Hronek needs an extension and half your Cs will also go free. For them to add a player like Buch, they would need cap help. And by adding Buch to the same depth chart that Garland sits on, Garland is simply a luxury item. Who would presumably get even less than 14 minutes. For 5 million bucks per. It would make no sense to try and keep him.</div></div>
Vancouver would rather keep the true duos that are/have formed of the top 3 lines more then likely as
Miller/Boeser, Petey/Höglander, and Joshua/Garland are one of the reasons we are fighting for Presidents trophy not picking in the draft lottery this year.
As for salary Garlands 5m is not hurting Vancouver has Podkolzin who is looking fine as a top 9 player and should be cheap to re-sign. Joshua is one we really don't want to lose but might if someone offers him 3m+. Blueger would be nice to come back but if he prices him out Suter wouldn't be a bad replacement on the 3rd line and Aman while offensively struggling is great defensively as a 4th line center. Bains looks close and could start where Hoglander did last year on the 4th line. In theory Cole and Myers could comeback on cheap 1 year deals (1-1.5m) Hronek will get paid and if it's too much can deal him to another team for a solid return as he is only an RFA. Zadorov might get a raise but I think he security over cash so might be able to keep his salary down without dealing anyone Vancouver can bring back the D they want and possibly sign a good vet RHS D (ie. Tanev) if they want to split Hronek and Hughes.

An optimistic next few months for the New York Islanders
At least let Hughes win a Norris before shafting him. I could see Garland being someone Islanders may overpay a bit for (ie. Wahlstrom+ a decent pick) that may get Van to deal him to you guys. He isn't going to be part of a cap casuality deal though.

Why give up on potential in McDonaugh (he's literally a rookie powerforward who is showing progress) for a 4th liner that is okay but will probably never be anything more.

Fair enough figured I was being too greedy wanting Tkachuk for Hronek. Not sure if Hronek wants too much (IMO he shouldn't get more than 7.5m) was thinking this would get what each team needs a powerforward to play with Petey (and in the future probably Lekkerimaki as well) while getting Ottawa a top pairing Right shot Defense while giving Arizona a Top pairing D for something they're going to have an overabundance of soon (having Geekie and Guenther on the way). But I'm not sure Batherson would fit what
Vancouver wants but would be something to consider.

Aren't you going to hurt you're top players having them be your main penalty killers wouldn't it make more sense to bring in some veteran pk'ers so your best players aren't playing 22-24 minutes a night over a regular season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>You don't need to sell me on Garland. I've been a fan of his for years. But here's no escaping that his ice time persistently dropped during his time in Vancouver. From 18 minutes in Arizona to 16 1/2 minutes his first Canucks season all the way down now to 14 minutes. I'm not sure the coaches quite agree with us on Garland. My thinking was, with Buch half retained (and theoretically extended at Vancouver's terms), you'd actually gain 3.75M in cap space for next season.
But like I said, the Blues will be happy to keep and perhaps extend Buch. It's still going to take nice goodies to pry him out. I was just trying to answer OP's query.</div></div>
For Garland's ice time it's more the fact Boeser meshes better with Miller and him and Pettersson are similar styles that don't mesh well together so getting 3rd line minutes and 2nd unit (for most of the year) pp time and a lot of the time the 1st unit is on for 1:45 until their is a whistle so get 15 seconds of PP time. And he isn't a PKer otherwise he'd get 16-18 minutes.

Willander will probably be coming out NCAA next season so probably starts 2024-25 on the farm. D-Petey I think challeges for a spot by end of next year. I feel his game is going to be better suited for the NA game. Klimovich needs to stay healthy to see what he is before he cracks the team as scratch Karlsson would make more sense then Klim in that spot. and Lekkerimaki is kind of top 6 or farm for the most part. Would need to sign some PK bottom six players so that Miller and Pettersson aren't playing 24+ minutes a night in the regular season.

If Hronek wants 8m+ I think it would be better to trade him and let someone else overpay him. He's had 1 good and 1 really good season. 6.5m-7.5m should be fair to him.

I somewhat disagree. I think unless Myers doesn't want to sign for a team friendly deal and they think none of the current Right shot defensemen in the A are close at all it would make more sense to give them a shot then bring in Timmins plus save cap for a hope good defensive Right shot D (ie. Tanev) who can play and be a mentor to Willander when he comes out of college.

Canucks pass Soucy has been great in his limited time with the team and is signed pretty cheap for the next 2 years so not going to trade him for something we already have the premium version of in Hughes.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Prime_Jimbo</b></div><div>I like Hronek and the Hughes/Hronek pair. Though I don't believe Hronek is worth $7M+ and I expect that'll be his ask. Hughes is helping him get paid big time.
Going on that thought, DeMelo has shown his ability to play with an offensive dman and is a much better defender than Hronek. Walker can fill any 2nd PP spot with Hronek's departure. Short term deal until Willander develops further. He's also more effective on PK than Hronek. Soucy and Cole remain the Canucks best defensive dmen and Cole the best PKer. TVR also solid on PK.</div></div>
Fair enough i dont mind trading Hronek but i do think there would be a better trade than that for him. We would still need a D who can move the puck to replace what Hronek does.
Also I think if you want a guy to be a short term guy I think better option is Tanev and should be cheaper then Demelo. I like Cole/Soucy I hope Cole will take a bit less to be an injury replacement level and bring Zadorov back as he brings physicality that the none of Defence bring other then maybe Juulsen. I'd suggest the replacents being Justin Schultz/Tanev/Myers (if he'll sign for dirt cheap) building a D core of:
Hughes- Tanev
Soucy- Myers (or cheap replacement or Cole and have McWard/Woo as the 8th D)
Zadorov- Schultz
Cole- Juulsen

That Defense is weird so and we take a loss on Hronek. As we dealt 17th and 43rd in a deep draft. For a 14th at best and a 55th+ 2nd round pick in a draft not as deep plus take back a bottom pairing D making 3m a year rather throw less at bringing back Myers.
Development and Walker are alright but team prefers to have size in their other Defenceman so don't think they throw 9.5m at the two players.

Why give away Soucy notice since he's been back we've played 2 of our best games this season, and have like a 18-2-4 record with him in the lineup. And yeah most of those contracts are too low some are too high.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>YesThisIsFlo</b></div><div>Man, I just can't get behind signing Lindholm. He's been a poor fit, but worse than that, he's already started declining and signing him to a long term extension just doesn't make any sense if that decline continues.
I'd rather spend the money on having a more reliable bottom pair of defensemen than on Lindholm. Keep Joshua-Blueger-Garland together and Aman as 4C, and give Raty time to hopefully develop into a 3C without having Lindholm long term and declining in front of him.</div></div>
I somewhat disagree with this has he been the same as when he centered Tkachuk and Gaudreau no he's only been that once I think if he'll sign more reasonably (if 8 year deal 6-6.25m max imo) gives us 3 very good Centers and allows Petey to focus more on scoring.
With that said I do agree not at the cost of our Defense. I think bring back Zadorov would be important and Juulsen is better suited as a 7th Defenceman he's done great this year. And unless any of our D prospects are ready this offseason (doesn't look like it but I do think D-Petey is better suited for the NA game) it would make sense to sign a better bottom pairing and an extra LHD in case Soucy misses games next year like this year.

If we end up with Celebrini its over for the league
Celebrini being rushed reeks of either breaking him before he develops or becoming Lafreinere where he is slowly developing into a good player. Celebrini is good and nice but he isn't Bedard. If you get him protect him don't just throw him to wild or imo you are going to regret that. If you did I'd suggest if he makes the team give him a protected role not #1 C or you are going to regret it.

I'd lean towards Colorado vs Carolina as I think if Vegas stays in Pacific side of Playoffs they are going to beat each other up too much. Though if Colorado doesn't win the division they might get upset by Winnipeg or Dallas. Florida I think gets too beat up by Boston and might cost them in a series against the Hurricanes

I don't trust most Boston Defenceman as they play a system that makes them look better then they are, and struggle on other teams. I'd rather keep our most physical Defenceman if talking to Buffalo rather throw a pick for Johnson. Who can play up and if need be a protector to play alongside Hughes.

The Insane 3- Team Trade Scenario
This is a bad deal for Van. We trade our top 6 young LW, the guy we traded for to play in the top 6. For a 3rd line Center we don't need( if we move Lindholm we'd drop Suter back to 4th line C and have Blueger move back to 3rd line) a less physical veteran PDG. And one improvement to the wing. While Guentzel is a very good player this will hurt the team more. Going forward.
