Crazy Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>All_Knowing</b></div><div>Yeah figured - I was totally unsure what the Wild would want for a return so started with 17oa and a pretty good prospect. What would a return look like for both?</div></div>
It would look like a player of a similar age/upside to Rossi, with a different skillset, or a similar age with a higher upside that the Wild could add to get.
So far the only confirmation that we have that he's even available is that he was offered (+) for Cutter Gauthier. So it would be something like that.

Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingExLeafs</b></div><div>Taking back salary would be a bad idea.</div></div>
Understand that you don't have a choice, few teams can afford to take Marner on and still sign everyone else they want/need to. Fewer teams still will be in that position to take salary on AND be a contender that has interest in Marner (or a team Marner would waive for).
You will have to take salary back or you will have to retain if he's traded this summer. That's not something that's up for debate.

Oh, my bad, third highest paid player in the league, as if that changes anything else I said

Get ready to retain big time then, or take on a cap dump. Very few teams are actually interested in taking on an 11M winger that's going to ask to be the highest paid player in the league in order to sign an extension.

Small point although I don't really care...Fleury just signed the one year extension in Minnesota saying it's going to be his last season, he doesn't care about retiring in Pittsburgh, he wants to retire in Minnesota

Yes and no. Some players genuinely are available for a package of lesser pieces. Rossi just isn't one of them.

What does this even mean? Nobody is talking about whether trades worked out. We're talking about how other teams value certain player. Risto was still valued highly by many teams because of his size. They weren't the only team interested. On the flip side the Flyers valued a smaller injury prone RD over Rossi.
Also completely different Flyers GMs made those trades
" it's that Rossi is only available if he could return this type of player." Your type of player doesn't make any sense though. Since they are all wildly different.</div></div>
It means just because one team didn't want Rossi doesn't mean he has no value to another team, and they could end up looking foolish for passing on Rossi to get Drysdale.
They're wildly different there's a range of different player types and values that could work. That should be evident and go without saying.

Not really. We have a lot of bottom pair defensemen and bottom six forwards on ELC's. Not much in the way of top of the lineup guys.

At the expense of the 13th and 45th overall picks in this draft? Big no.

I'm sure he is. You'll probably want to keep him then considering how good he is and how much value he has on his contract.

Minnesota isn't trading their 1st, let alone adding their 2nd, for Matheson.

23 or younger maybe. They need to be able to add ELC contributors to the roster down the line to keep their window open. Seth Jarvis is a great example of what that looks like right now for Carolina.

Rossi is available but READ ME
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BuffaloSoldier</b></div><div>Not like Cutter Gauthier. He would've been traded for Cutter if that was the case.
Flyers obviously found a 2nd + Drysdale package better than Rossi+, which tells me his value isn't that great.</div></div>
Flyers also thought Ristolainen was worth trading a 14th and a 39th overall pick for a few years ago, it's not like teams don't get it wrong.
But again, you misunderstand, like everyone else. The point isn't that Rossi is available and these are the types of players it'll take to get him, it's that Rossi is only available if he could return this type of player. There's a massive, important, distinct difference there.

He could be on the way out, yes, but Russo has reported that it would be for a very specific type of return, IF they can get that.
So far the only actual news of him being available was for Cutter Gauthier before he was traded to Anaheim, to further the point.

Rossi isn't a change of scenery trade, he's a "we'll trade him only if we can get something of a similar age/upside we like better"
Needless to say Buchnevich is not that
Think along the lines of one of your recent 1st round picks if you want to talk about a Rossi trade

Matheson was one of the best defenseman in the league last season and has 2 more years on his contract, he's a 8.5M to 9.5M defenseman making half that.
On top of him i added two prospect who each still hold value as a late 1st and i actually added another 1st round pick</div></div>
Answer the question. Would you sacrifice the 5th overall or even Reinbacher for that package?

Yeah because I applied context, which you don't seem to be willing to do.
Let's go back to this question then since you want to double down on how your package is somehow reasonable:
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Digitalbooya06</b></div><div>
Ask yourself if you’d rather have 5th overall or the package you offered above.</div></div>
