Toronto Maple Leafs signed Andreas Johnsson (1 Year / $787,500 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drewjenks</b></div><div>Good value - but we don't really need the cap space this year.
It'll probably lead to a Brown / Hyman type contract next summer (if he plays the whole year with the Leafs). It's also possible that he explodes offensively....but I bet they'll keep him off the top 2 lines until he's locked in for at least 2-3 years.
$1,200,000 - $1,400,000 x 3 years would have been good too.</div></div>
Would’ve loved to see a three year contract for anything under 2 mil. This limits there flexibility. If they want to play him higher up the lineup (with Marner and Tavares to balance out the lines for example) theyll have to pay for it next year when they’ll be tight for cap space.

JT Leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jayhus</b></div><div>cap comparable is 6.75M based on what Johnny got from Flames a couple of years ago, but Nylander has a higher Ceiling and this is factoring in what he may command once potentially playing with JT with the leafs. Also JVR got 7M per year so I'd say its fair to assume Nylander would get something between 7-8M per year as Draisaitl got 8.5M from Oilers and Nylander is just below him in terms of Ceiling.</div></div>
Nylander needs a contract before the season starts so playing with JT has no relevance. His contract will play a factor in Marner and Matthews contracts in a year so it’s a big deal considering they will both want comparatively more then him. If he’s 8 Marners 9/10 and Matthews is 11/12. Kucherov just signed for 9.5 for some perspective

If he’s turns into an amazing dman it would make sense but that’s a big gamble for Arizona.

Because of his 7 year contract and him not playing up to it last year, Zaitsevs trade value is extremely low right now. If he doesn’t rebound this year theres the risk he could turn into a bad contract that no one wants. Dvorak and a 1st is outrageous.

Yeah Matthews on top without a question your just making an idiot of yourself at this point. I don’t love Kadri personally either but he’s the best 3rd line center in the league now

Your right that they’d need more for Stone but take a look at Winnipeg or Tampa Bay, this is an amazing offense but it’s not the best in the league

First two trades are horrible but the Karlsson trade is probably pretty close to what Ottawa would be asking for.

The cap should go up to around 82 and they’ll be smart enuf to use all of Horton’s LTIR. There’s also a good chance Marner or especially nylander sign for less than 8 mil. That’s an extra 6/7 million right there.

We better beat the Bruins
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>Even if they lose game 7 I’m very happy they didn’t sell at the deadline. Would have felt that way had they lost in 4.
Sometimes there’s more to be gained from showing a young team you believe in them then by trading for a pile of draft picks who may or may not ever make the nhl.
Don’t let tomorrow's results cloud what is gained from learning to be a playoff hardened squad.</div></div>
I never suggested that they shud have done this, I’m quite happy with what they did but it comes with expections and I wouldn’t be satisfied if they got swept. I’m just pointing out how expensive this experience really is. (Which really makes it that much more of a shame that we have the hardest road to the finals of any team.)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Goulet</b></div><div>Gardiner is elite.</div></div>
Depends on ur definition of elite but he’s a UFA in a year and we may not be able to sign him with Matthews Marner and Kapanen needing to be signed as well so the options could be: lose him for nothing, trade him at the deadline, or trade him at the draft. If that’s the case the draft makes the most sense to me and Chicago seems like the best partner.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Goulet</b></div><div>What is going on with that Gardiner trade? Is that a pick upgrade only for the best defenseman on the team?
Like the Vanek idea. He is essentially JVR without the price...although to an extent, so is Leivo.</div></div>
The way I see it a top 10 pick in this years super deep draft translates to an potentially elite Hanafin/McAvoy caliber defenseman that the leafs need so bad which would be worth a late round first next year(in a weaker draft) a late second this year, and one year of Gardiner.
