1. Based on the title I think DP is better than Cole.
2. The Top 4 aren't going to change without a major shakeup
3. They were good enough last season...
A true Top 6 LW is the biggest roster hole. This at least plugs it without impacting the other positions. I'm not saying I'd do it if I was GM. But I'd be curious to know what others would want in exchange for DP.

Canes could still do that easily if their Owner is willing to invest the money.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canes5326</b></div><div><i>Why offer sheet Lindholm? We have enough defensive depth. I could see us maybe signing a UFA D veteran.</i></div></div>
Because Lindholm is leagues better than any UFA D left on the board (and probably when Free Agency started too). You'd rather have Kris Russell for $4m or Fowler at $6 or $7?

It's exactly what Curtis Stock has his number as (courtesy of Freedman's 30 Thoughts today). Although he has Lucic at 7 years for $42M which would be $6m AAV.

Cup Defense
I'm really conflicted on the Pouliot for Yakupov deal. It'd be cool to add a young talent like that. If they could get another LH D prospect back, ideally better than Nemeth but along those lines, it'd take a lot of the sting out of it. I like the direction you've taken overall.

Hard pass on Colborne and Vrbata. Why sign Tom Gilbert when you have Rowney and Bengnstonn now in the fold and could possibly resign Lovejoy and/or Schultz? Why exactly is MTL interested in Kunitz? Why would Kunitz waive his NTC to go there?

Well now that I see the full cap credit for Clowe I'm positive it'd be above the floor (as I don't think you could maneuver it to get an LTIR credit for him).

You're over the cap because you have 26 players on your roster :) You don't need 5 full lines, 4 full D pairs and 3 goalies. If you relegate Jarry and one other prospect to the AHL it'd be under the Cap.

I didn't know that about Stuart. Knowing that I wouldn't have to find a way to dump his salary for a forward.
Thanks!

That's really what I expected to hear. I honestly tried to do too much here, incorporating the Barrie rumors and throwing in Iginla in a sentimental but sensible addition.

Barrie is their best piece but Varlamov is expensive for what he's proven and Iginla is just about finished in the NHL. He might be done after this contract. The Pit and Cgy trades seem pointless also. Basically all of this was done to give Col and Cgy new goalies. If CGY wants Fleury/Varlamov they can just trade for him straight up. No need to trade half their defence core.</i></div></div>
I don't think Fleury will waive his NTC to play in Calgary. He might to play for his childhood idol Patrick Roy.
I think your take that Colorado isn't giving up enough is interesting . Not what I expected to hear at least.

Replace Lehtonen with Fleury
From a Pen's perspective neither of those prospects are overly appealing. They have a better prospect than Campbell already in the AHL in Tristian Jarry. Ritchie might be a good winger, but the Penguins don't need another RW with Kessel, Hornqvist, Rust, and Fehr. Plus Daniel Sprong next season.
I totally get not wanting to part with Nichushkin. But he can play LW and that's what the Penguins would be after. I think Roussel would be more appealing than the two prospects you've listed. Just my $0.02

Thoughts???
I think your signings are a little low. I think Demers is going to get $5m+, Schultz isn't going to take a 70% paycut (would you?), and Nichushkin will be bridged but likely for more than $2m.
All that said your targets and reasoning are legit.

I'd alter your D pairs a little. Brodin seems to play the right side; but that's good because Dumoulin is too good to be on the bench in Ian Cole's seat. Your trades aren't fantastical.

I don't know why but I think it's funny that you like the only trade idea with term. I tried to look for teams that I think won't appear on Fleury's NTC list. Otherwise I'd trade him to Calgary or Carolina like everyone else on this board.

It varies depending on the clause.
Many of them are required to submit their list on July 1. In some cases if they do not submit, they don't have a NTC for that season.
Some of them have to submit their list "in a reasonable amount of time" from when the team requests the list</i></div></div>
Thank you!
