He really chose to stay with a team that is a fringe playoff team at best.

I don't like it. This makes them better and I want the Habs to keep rebuilding for the next few years but looks like management wants the Habs to compete as soon as next year

Get Larkin a partner at C
I like the idea for sure. Logic would say the Wings have to get a strong second center sooner or later. But what do I know, the Blackhawks won 3 Cups with Toews and not much else at center,

The missing piece
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>Hertl is 28, I have no problem with using picks for players if they fit the age of the current core. People were recently talking about trading Larkin and Bertuzzi because of this and asset management is crucial in sustained success. Another factor is when do you think Hertl is going to regress? If you own his rights I’m sure his team is going to bat for an 8 year deal putting him around 36. Most likely you’ll see one of Hertl, Trocheck, or Copp testing the market.</div></div>
Larkin and Bertuzzi will be free agents soon as well. If you don't improve the team and miss the playoffs again those guys could walk and you're setting yourself back another 2-3 years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DeadWingsv2</b></div><div>Trading for Hertl would be beyond asinine asset management. Also, his contract will be more than that. Free agency or bust.</div></div>
Actually because he is a UFA you can trade for him for much cheaper than you normally would. When a strong center like this is available you have to get him. Betting on getting him in UFA is too risky.

There are many other teams that will want the player. If you can get him with an extension like Vegas did with Stone it's worth it.

The missing piece
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>I think he’d be a great fit but don’t love the price. Detroit is projected 13th overall and I’d wager it drops in that 8-11 range. Most teams acquiring him would be playoff teams and they add a decent prospect to their first. So value wise I think it’s close but slight overpay and I really don’t want to move that first.</div></div>
Keeping your picks is great in theory, but if you can use them to add a core player you need why not do it.

Pelech is a #1 when it comes to shutting down opponent's star players. Sure he doesn't put up points, but I would argue a defenseman should prioritise defense

You need to trade him anyways and you're not getting a better player than Barzal from another team so you will have to take Ladd in the deal unless you prefer another O'Reilly trade lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pens2000</b></div><div>good point. would u trade eichel for barzal + more?</div></div>
No I wouldn't go overboard, this is a fair deal. When you trade Eichel you have to get someone who can replace Eichel back, that's why I refered to the O'Reilly trade that they can't just have a bunch of depth players and some late 1st rounder coming back.

They are getting Barzal so they either take Ladd or leave it lol. Ladd is like 1/100 part in this deal, not the reason you decline

No way, if you watch Barzal play the last few years you could tell he just doesn't bring it in the playoffs. Brock Nelson is much better every year!

(DET/WSH) - Mantha for Pánik, Vrána, 2021 1st, 2022 2nd
This is a lite version of the Shanahan trade.
Paul Coffey for Brendan Shanahan
Keith Primeau Brian Glynn
1997 1st round pick
Although it looked like an overpayment from Detroit they ended up winning the Cup. Mantha as the big power forward certainly has the biggest upside of any of the players in this trade.

The Isles seem to get hated on a lot. But what matters is they're successful, and are on the right path.
