Hughes is also the only OFD on the roster. Nemec and Hamilton are 2 ways but youre an Hockeydb expert so points for a dman = OFD</div></div>
So you remove bahl from the lineup I agree. But he needs a quality shutdown dman and quality PK guy as a replacement. Mike Matheson is neither.
If Hamilton gets hurt Casey fills that offensive role. Otherwise Hamilton fills that role.
Nemec is 100% an Offensive minded dman.
Hamilton is 100% an offensive D.
Again, NJD is not lacking in offense in the slightest.

They have a player with a similar profile in Lysell and Lysell showed he’s willing to play a team game. My assumption is Holtz will have more potential than a late 1st. Just wondering if he makes sense. Personally think he’s worth a flyer, but I do acknowledge the flaws and talent are both present
I don’t see why Vegas trades Karlsson and why Boston isn’t just signing Lindholm OR Stephenson. At the beginning of the year, all I heard from most fans was praying that Lindholm would make it to free agency.</div></div>
Yeah I’m not sure if Holtz would make sense. I think the best spot for him is a team that can afford to give him a chance in the top 6 while he’s figuring stuff out.
Washington imo would be the best fit for Holtz. Learning from Ovi, should be spots in the top 6 opening up. They’ll need a guy to provide a jolt to their PP probably.
Pittsburgh or SJS would also make sense in my eyes

scenario 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buffdaddy</b></div><div>What LHD would NJ ideally target for similar value, who has similar term and perhaps AAV?</div></div>
In terms of dman targets:
Higher price (1st+): Marcus Pettersson, Martin Fehevary.
Lower tiers: Dumoulin, Brodie, McNabb, TVR, Gavrikov.
NJD doesn’t necessarily need a long term target. A short term stopgap to let Siegs and Marino bounce back and Luke Casey Nemec and Bahl develop works just fine.
I’d also look to an LD as a potential draft target. Sam Dickinson would be ideal if he falls or as a target trading up

Good thing Hamilton is coming back next year.
With Hamilton, Luke, and Nemec, that is more than enough offensive firepower.
Bahl and Siegenthaler would not both remain in the lineup, unless you’re suggesting the incredibly moronic take of benching Luke Hughes.
By acquiring Matheson you would be adding a 4th offensive dman, (5 once Casey comes along).
Siegenthaler had a significantly down year. He should bounce back with Hamilton but no guarantees
Bahl needs to be upgraded on. Maybe he can improve and develop, specifically as a passer, but he should be the 7D next year.

Mike Matheson is useful to the habs for eating minutes.
He isn’t a good PP player and wouldn’t play on NJDs PP
He isn’t a good PK player and wouldn’t play on NJDs PK
he eats hard minutes 5v5 but he isn’t good defensively.

Matheson plays a lot of minutes.
He plays a lot on the PK. Unfortunately he is really bad at killing penalties.
He plays a lot on the PP. This PP ranks 29th and according to a LARGE number of habs fans, his lack of ability in this area is the only thing holding the PP back.
He plays a lot 5v5. Not very effective, although it is a tough role.
I wouldn’t want him on my PP, or my PK, and there’s a number of guys I’d rather target for 5v5.

It is egregious. The gap between them is a 1st+.
Mercer would be around a top 10 pick. Guhle would be around a top 10 pick. Matheson would be at most a late 1st.
In terms of trade value of NJD and MTL dmen.

As for the article, it was a great read. Thank you for the information. It is a little misleading as some of the commenter's point out. But the premise that most goalies decline over 35 is true; except for your elite ones, and that isn't Markstrom</div></div>
The NHL is becoming a younger and younger game every year. Likely even steeper of a fall off for more recent data

He had an excellent year this year I’ll give him that.
The 2 before that being atrocious however make him unappealing.
Put a 2nd on the table for either Markstrom or Binnington, both old and expensive and inconsistent. If either bite sure, if not who cares. And of course that is only if an Ullmark deal doesn’t come through

Fehevary is the exact type of 4th liner we need. He’s incredibly fast, and he has a ton of size. Literally a perfect fit.
TVR can play LD if needed, or be injury insurance, or we can move Marino. At the cost of a 3rd it’s imo a no brainer, unless we can get McNabb for a 3rd in which case I would do that.
In terms of that class of Dmen, my order of preference
McNabb
TVR

TVR has played LD in the past. At this price I’d take it happily.

Markstrom and CGY heading to Splitsville
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shaun80</b></div><div>Well written, I do love how New Jersey fans always skip over that Holtz was part of a package. We will never know what the offer really was. I'm not going to try a predict a return for Markstrom, I a have no idea how other teams would realistically value him. The biggest thing now though is there are potentially more teams interested in him. Nashville wants to resign Saros so he might no longer be a option. Will be interesting to see what happens.</div></div>
If it was any roster player, they would have certainly been mentioned because clearly Calgary can’t keep anything from leaking.
If it was a 1st, it would have 100% been mentioned.
So best case scenario for Calgary. it was a prospect not named Gritysuk Casey or Lenni, or a 2nd round pick involved
But I’d say markstroms value has plummeted by much more than a 2nd.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>Many Flames Fans are ready to move on from Markstrom and hand the reigns to Wolf and a healthy Vladar, so I for one am definitely hoping to see him Traded at the deadline for ideally another or a much better 1st Round Pick. I do believe we will need to retain at least $2mil to get a quality return though
The only way I see CGY having an interest in Holtz is if they plan to flip him or Coronato for their actual need, which is a True Centre. Otherwise, they’ll likely want a quality Pick to Draft and Develop One of their own
I do believe it takes more than Holtz alone to get Marky though, especially if he’s being retained on though</div></div>
If you prefer a 2025 1st+2nd instead of Holtz NJD would be more than happy to oblige. But Holtz was apparently the key piece that got Conroy to accept, so he is apparently the guy Calgary would want.

trade 10
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AEcho</b></div><div>I think there are bones here for a trade, but NSH declines. Too much going on within this I think for it to make sense for either team.
The easiest starting point would Saros for NJD 2024 1st (10OA)
Everything after that is all over the place. NSH would want a tangible assest back as part of a Saros deal, either at center or RD. The most obvious is Casey. So something perhaps like:
Saros, and WPG's 2024 2nd for NJD 2024 1st, Daws, Casey, and NJD's 2025 4th
The only reason I'm including Daws is it seems like their isn't faith in him after last season, but he doesn't need to be involved</div></div>
So Saros for 10th+Daws+4th
I would not trade you Casey for Nashvilles 1st, let alone their 2nd
