St. Louis Blues signed James Neal (1 Year / $750,000 AAV)
I've been waiting for this to happen since he scored 3 against the Wild in the first preseason game. Good deal.

Minnesota opening night Roster Prediction
As Russo recently pointed out in an article, it makes some sense for the Wild to keep Rossi to under 10 games played this year. Then his 3 year contract wouldn't start until next year and they wouldn't have to resign him until the summer after the dead cap money ends. Obviously that can change this year if there's injuries or he's just way too good in Iowa. I went to last nights preseason game vs Chicago and my take away was it wouldn't hurt to have him spend a year in Iowa getting used to playing against men and just bigger bodies in general. He had a pretty strong game overall and nearly had a goal but does seem to get pushed around in the center of the ice as he's only 5'9". McCabe gave him a "welcome to the NHL" moment as he entered the zone alone with his head down a bit and was quickly put on his back.
Beckman's had a great camp and can definitely shoot but could also use a year just learning the pro game better. I bet it's Duhaime that gets a 4th line spot with Pitlick being the 13th forward. Duhaime looked like an NHL player already with his speed and size. Beckman, Boldy (hopefully his injury isn't as serious as it looked), Rossi, and Addison can only be helped by spending most of the year in Iowa to get some seasoning.

He was invisible or injured last year for the Wild. But there's really no such thing as a bad 1 year contract especially at this price. Could bounce back and be decent.

Wild would need a lot more to trade Kaprizov. If he only signs for 3-4 years, which looks more and more likely as the summer goes on, then it'll be at least 2 years before the Wild consider trading him if it doesn't look like he's going to sign long term. However in 4 years the Parise/Suter dead cap is gone and they could offer a huge contract.
As for his RFA contract this summer, it's reported he already turned down 8 x $9M from the Wild as he wants a shorter contract to get to UFA in 3 years. Hopefully they can agree in the 4-5 year range but we'll see.

I agree. GMBG has to get Kaprizov signed for at least 4 years. Then when he hits UFA the dead cap will be in the rearview mirror and there'd be nothing in the way of offering him a mega deal if he showed he earned it.

That's way too much to pay Larsson to be a 3rd pair D. There should be much cheaper options available. I think you'd want that $ for future seasons if you're going for it all by signing Landeskog and Hamilton.

I don't think Parise will sign anywhere to be scratched. Suter should get at least double that per year. Sounds like he'll have quite a few teams after him since he's still able to play at a top 4 level.

Not bad. D corps is solid. I'd prefer to keep Fiala and pass on Landeskog. It'd be a lot of $ to commit to another player that isn't a true #1 center. On that 2nd line you could have Boldy at LW and Fiala RW.

I like the Suter signing for Chicago. I think he ends up choosing another team that's closer to being a real contender, but if he wants to stay close to home Chicago would be it. Plus there could be the added bonus of playing where his uncle Gary Suter played.

My thought as well. I can't see them picking Duchene though. That's a lot of money to have tied up for 5 years on someone that hasn't looked good since he got to Nashville.
Also, regarding the Wild I expect Talbot to be protected. It seems like most people think D Carson Soucy will be the pick.

Why couldnt this have happened
I get the impression that Suter was never going to waive his no move clause as his wife is from MN and they're close to his home near Madison. Guerin possibly could've found a trading partner if he was willing to retain 50% of the salary, but 4 years left is still a long time for an aging defenseman even if he'll most likely be a decent top 4 for the next 2 years. But you'd still need Suter to waive the NMC. Don't forget cap recapture could come in to play if he retired before the end of his contract. The buyouts leave a lot of dead cap but at least Guerin knows exactly what he has to work with now.
The Parise for Ladd trade should've happened last season if it was ever going to happen. After this last year teams could see the writing on the wall that Parise wasn't happy with his situation and there was a chance he could be bought out. Now the Islanders can sign him for cheap for a year or two if they really want to.

After the buyouts
Regarding the Kaprizov contract I'm 99% certain Michael Russo reported the Wild already offered him 8 x $8M and he turned it down. He wants a 2-3 year contract so he can sign a massive deal when he hits UFA. Wild obviously want to sign him for 8 years but it doesn't sound like that'll happen. I'm hoping we at least get 4-5 years otherwise it'd be a real bummer to finally have him come to the NHL after a 5 year wait only to leave after a few seasons.
It sounds like Fiala thinks he's more of a $7M+ type of player. It's hard to blame him when you look at his numbers (its something like 38g over his last 82 games) but I don't see the Wild going that high with him. I could see something shorter for Fiala like 3 x $6.5M

Parise or not
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>editor9999</b></div><div>Parise is an interesting player. Especially his time in Minny. After almost 4 quality seasons, he missed the end of the 2015-16 season and the 2016 playoffs due to injury. He didn't have a good 2016-17 season and spend the first half of the 2017-18 season not playing due to injury and again mediocre production. In the 2018-19 season he proved he wasn't washed and had a great season. He did take a step back in the 2015-16 season, but still scored 25 goals. Honestly I wasn't expecting such a drop-off in production. Yes he would be pushed down the depth chart but I still expected him to get something like 15 goals and 32 points if he played all 56 games. His goal scoring rate had been less than 20 goals and even less than 15 goals. Only 7 goals in 45 games. Parise seems to play and is more noticeable in the playoffs.
2021 playoffs: 3 points in 4 games after being scratched in the first 3 including 2 goals
2020 playoffs: 3 apples in 4 games and he could've scored multiple goals
2018 playoffs: 3 goals in 3 games
2017 playoffs: 3 points in 5 games including 2 goals
2015 playoffs: 10 points in 10 games
2014 playoffs: 14 points in 13 games
2013 playoffs: only 1 goal, but it was against the President Trophy Hawks</div></div>
He always comes through in the playoffs. You just have to limit his minutes throughout the season to keep him as fresh as possible. Throw him on the 2nd PP to keep him happy. Then hope you get the good Parise again come playoff time.

I think they need Eichel more than any other team
Eichel is pipe dream. If you check the long-term outlook they'd already be at an $80M cap hit for next season with only 13 players signed. There's really no way they're going to be able to take on a large contract without getting rid of Dumba and Fiala most likely. The ELC players will all be gold for the Wild the next few years. They better hope draft guru Judd Brackett knows what he's doing because they're going to need all the young talent they can get.

Parise or not
I think you have the right idea for the type of contract Parise will get. He looked washed up for long stretches this last season, but then when coming back after being scratched and when he finally got in the playoffs he was obviously motivated and played pretty well. I also think it's just as likely he could end up in Vegas to be reunited with DeBoer.

Eichs to Minny
I think the Eichel to MN dream is over. There's no way the Wild can trade all their cheap young prospects anymore. They need to see what Boldy, Rossi, and Addison can do this year and then hope they're very productive in the following 3 years when they're still cheap while the dead cap hit is massive. Large contracts like Dumba and probably even Fiala would need to be traded to bring in a really big contract like Eichel's. It's going to be interesting to see what GMBG can do.

Suter Parise and Bunting
I could see Suter getting a contract like that for 2 years as he still has something left in the tank. The Parise one seems way too high though. He was a 4th liner/scratch the end of the season for the Wild. He showed he had something left in the tank in the playoffs, but I don't see him getting more than a 1 year $1.5M offer at most. It could even be lower than that if it's for a contending team which is what I assume both of them will be looking for.

Wild 2021-22 prediction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyman1208</b></div><div>I highly doubt Guerin just opened up 10 million extra in cap space so he could sign Paul Stastny. My guess is Rask will be off the team within a couple of weeks, we will trade for a higher skilled center that will play with Kaprizov and Zuccarelo (Dvorak, Zacha, etc.). Also, I don’t think they break up the FOLIGNO JEEK GREENWAY line, they are far too good together defensively.</div></div>
Yeah I played it pretty safe with my prediction. I'm not a fan of Rask and would be happy to see him moved. Plus that would probably mean we'd see Rossi either at the start of the season or not long after he gets some AHL games under his belt. I hope Ek gets a shot with either Fiala or Kaprizov. I don't think they would've given him that contract if they only saw him as a 3rd line center forever. I can't wait to see what GMBG does next.
