The goaltending can't be worse than last year. The underlying numbers weren't good. They are taking a big gamble, that's for sure! Huge.

Scooby Dubas
Durzi looked good last season, and was a great pick by Dubas. That said, Sandin is two years younger and has higher potential. Be patient, it will pay off. See my predictions post for how it will shake out, or not ;). TBH, I would love to have Durzi back tho!

Toronto says no. Liljegren is not being traded just to move Kerfoots contract. His numbers are excellent and he has big upside.

team dubas
This is the most ridiculous statement. So, Dubas doesn't get to spend the $40m of cap space you just shed? And you judge him on it? Haters be haters. Go find another team to hate on, hater. Haters are so annoying.

It is a tough contract to move. But if you can move it, you have 3m up front and 3m on the back end. You'd need a sweetener to move the contract.

Day 2 FA
I can't see Dubas sacrificing the D for offense like that. We would be taking a big step backwards for the team D. I agree, the front end needs help and I would love to pick up a guy with upside like Strom, but we can't lose out on the backend to do it. It's going to be barging basement dumpster diving that will get us there.

Leafs
I just don't see this team being better than last years team. We are banking on Murray being better, ok, let's hope that works out. The D will be better with the growth of Sandin and Liljegren, so I feel confident with them.
Up front, we just aren't as deep. We asking a rookie, Robertson to pick up the scoring for Kase and IIya. There will be more growth for MM AM and WN, but it feels like John's lack of speed is starting to show, even though he had a good season. To me, we need at least one more scoring piece up front, two would be better with the limited depth it appears we have.

Signed Marner No trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>Afraid he has. In comparing Marner and Aho, in both stats and analytics, we have two players that are strickingly similar. Two key differnences, Aho plays centre, and looking at HockeyViz, Marner's production over the last year has outpaced Aho (but no one seems to think that Tavares has anything to do with that).
If we carefully look at the key pending RFA's - namely Ratennan, Tkachuk, Point and Marner; you also need to factor in linemates. Mikko plays with McKinnon (that sucks!) Point with Kucherov (the dud that now has hardware), and Marner with Tavares. Only Tkachuk for my money truly is a player whose numbers to date stand alone - primarily play with Backlund.
So many factors man.</div></div>
I am not saying that Aho is not a comparable player. Just that one contract doesn't set a market. It might set the floor of the market, but you have to wait until another big player signs to really know the market. Right now you have two comparables, Matthews and Aho. We all agree Matthews isn't a true comparable, but it is the one the Marner camp is using. So you need multiple deals to be signed to say, "hey Mitch, these guys are your comparables". What happens if Point signs for 10.5? That is also a comparable and sets a new market.
All I am saying is that I think Aho's deal is reasonable, but I don't think that we will see Tkachuk or Point sign for 8.5m. I think 9.5 is the real market, Aho wanted his deal done (said so himself) and took less to get it done.

Reality check, Aho has set the market price imo</div></div> Aho has not set the market, you need Point or one of the other big guys to sign before the market is set. I wish we could get him for less than 9.5, but because they overpaid Matthews, I think they'll overpay Marner too.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oneX</b></div><div>If Dubas just stays patient, what people like <a href="/users/Jamiepo" target="_blank">@Jamiepo</a>, and to a larger extent, <a href="/users/swinny" target="_blank">@swinny</a> have said would be largely true. Marner has no leverage and by sitting out any amount of time will hurt this season's production and make getting a decent deal even tougher.
Nevermind the 8 million I thought they would settle on, something in the 7+ range more than possible imo.</div></div> I wish, but that is never happening. He wants 10.5 and more for more years. I agree, they shouldn't pay him, I was just demonstrating what they may have to do to fit him in at 11.5m.

Kyle being a bit smart
Kadri is cost controlled at an excellent value for the four years. The years you plan on winning the cup. We just got depth a centre, and you trade it away? There is a chance to win this year and you throw that away. Next year you bring in a guy who isn't going to be a strong third line centre, by that I mean defend and score like Kadri. So that's two years wasted. Maybe then you start to see the payback but you have to hope that that pick pans out quick, but if he does pan out quick, now you're looking at trading players to fit him in. Kadri has a salary which helps the team win. At $7 or more, which he is worth, we can't keep all three young guns now.

Nylander will top 70+ points this year, maybe more with power play time. I don't think we trade him when he is about to seriously break out. The defense will be just fine. We plan on having the puck most of the time, except when they are picking it out of the back of their net.
