So the answer is to run a 20 man roster with Giordano in the AHL after he clears waivers and place a healthy Matt Murray on LTIR?

Without minimizing assets, yes... Murray will get hurt again anyway and until then, they rotate who goes on LTIR if necessary while guys like Roberston and Minten and Niemela if needed

You're assuming Brodie's taking 5 mill next year

This is probably the move but that's kinda tight and idk if you can just ditch giordano to the AHL? What's his incentive to report and what are the ramifications if he just retires?

Timmins on waivers before Gio. saves a few bucks and if Timmins gets claimed, not really a big loss.

Realistically we'd send timmins down before gio. The 300K dollar difference might allow the possibility of a Murray buyout while keeping a 20 man roster.

Reaves should be on waivers, that contract is an overpay (for term, I'm sure the $ amount looks right but on waivers a team may not like 3 years of him). Plus since it's a 35+ year old player contract, it's buyout proof. So he'll clear waivers and you call him up only when you need him.

The most likely scenario is an 11 forward and 7 D lineup.

What is the point of exposing anyone to waivers if Holmberg is waiver exempt?

Less than perfect, but let's think asset management.

I can't believe that Treliving didn't have a plan in mind before signing Bertuzzi, Domi and Klingberg. I don't think that it involves running an 11-7 (sending Holmberg to the Marlies instead of putting Timmins or Giordano on waivers) so I guess he's planning on finding a new home for T. J. Brodie.

I think Gio is more likely to clear waivers better than Timmins can TBH

Thats probably true but isnt there some kinda hit if he doesnt report or retires? Hes definitely not going to play in the AHL.

Must be... And TBF, the Leafs were at their best when using the 11-7, so maybe that's his plan?

Or he can do a Simmonds and not report to the AHL and wait until he's called bak up?

It's all conjecture at this point.

I am not a fan of moving Brodie, but Brodie amd Nylander are the options imo.

And let's say Brodie is the plan; going on a one year with Dumba sets the blueline back.

I am wondering if the solution is using waivers for Holmberg and Knies to trim the off day fat.

There are options, none of them are perfect

sending a player down doesnt mean he have to play games.

Can't imagine Treliving would send Giordano to the Marlies to make some cap space, they'll figure send else out before it comes to that.

Murray to LTIR and moving the Muzzin contract (just to get under the 10%) while sending down Gambrell and Robertson should be the first things they do, leaving roughly 600K in cap space, I guess they can also put Sammy on LTIR (considering his injury in G3 could make him eligible until someone else gets hurt and use that cycle until TDL where things become more complicated

It would be a case of Gio sitting at home until he gets called back up
