Seattle trade is awful. Why would Calgary do this?
Also, pass on Zegras the ask is higher than his value.

I don't see Calgary making this deal. It's not all bad, but I suspect Conroy will hold onto him until the deadline as a pending UFA.

Fans will be more upset if they spend anything on this weak UFA class. They need to finish 10 or below next year. 11-16 will be a PR nightmare.

Not a ton of French Europeans coming over. Calgary is significantly closer to Finland and Sweden in terms of geography, and Vancouver is the nicer than any other city of you can afford it. Edmonton and Winnipeg are obviously at the bottom of the list.

I don't see NJ or CGY revisiting the 2024 1st. That ship probably sailed. I wouldn't do the Krebs deal either. Coronato has more upside and Krebs may be the odd man out in Buffalo anyways.

What would be the price Flames fans
There isn't a real reason to trade him, so I would say a 1st and Center prospect at the deadline. The draft would be different: probably a top 10 -15 pick, which I don't see happening for a multitude of reasons.

Mixing it up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Armer88</b></div><div>When has Markstrom been playoff goalie?</div></div>
When he played in the playoffs. Would you prefer to trade for Binnington? He lit it up and carried St Louis to the cup.
Playoff runs are about momentum. A good in season goalie is a good goalie in the playoffs. Adin hill had terrible numbers before going to Vegas, but lit it up behind their defence and carried it into the playoffs.

I fail to see how that changes anything. Having a better goalie for the playoffs would be the prudent move.

Mixing it up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>Except that whichever team we send Tarasenko to will ask us to retain 50% on him.
And even with 50% retention on Mangiapane, he would still have a higher cap hit than Brannstrom.</div></div>
I guess it depends on the team. If it is Vegas, probably not. Most teams are waiting to move players to LTIR just before the deadline, so there will be more cap space than currently indicated. The deal, as is, gives OTT 1.2MM in cap. If Tarasenko is half retained they lose 4.5 MM in cap but are up. 1.3MM from Mangiapane. It doesn't make it a bad deal. Getting Calgary to retain for multiple years is more difficult than retaining less on Tarasenko for a few months.
Tarasenko - 5MM
Mangiapane +5.8MM
Brannstrom -2MM

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Armer88</b></div><div>Sammy is off the books after this season and Reaves can be buried for almost nothing.
When was the last time a goalie went for a 1st and top prospect?
13-13 in the playoffs and .911 sv%
Rather look into Saros</div></div>
Markstrom is 3rd in the league for goals saved above expected. Saros is 70th. Samsanov 88th, Woll, 19th, Jones 20th.
https://moneypuck.com/goalies.htm
Markstrom's last year was bad, but that was an anomaly in an otherwise very consistent career. Calgary would be in a lotto position this year if it wasn't for him. His sv% and GAA would be top of the league if it wasn't for our d core hanging him out to dry in the first 15 games this year. Considering how many goalies Toronto has gone through, stability in net should be a top priority.
Also, the ask isn't high here considering he isn't a UFA.

Yeah, the "prisoner swap" was obviously a joke.
What need is there to retain on Mangiapane? He is an ideal fit, and with Tarasenko gone there is no cap issue.
