I read somewhere that Gunler could be the Kaliyev of this draft, high end talent but bad reputation for lack of effort, etc. tanks his draft stock. Have seen him as high as 12ish as low as 25ish. I like Ozzy as our 2nd a lot, potentially as the Boston 1st depending on who's available.

In two years Anaheim would still have Marner, and the Leafs would have potentially nothing.
Its why I wouldn't pay the likely asking price for Parayko as he only has two years left.</div></div>
Ok that's fair. Marner as a player is surely worth more talent wise than the package we'd be sending in this case. Marner's value is just greatly impacted by the monster of a contract he's on and the fact he's somewhat expendable positionally for you guys (you have a surplus of skilled wingers). Ultimately the added cap space is the real value you get out of this. It's ultimately marner vs manson/rakell/3 mill(ish) in cap space. I think we line up as trade partners because you guys need the depth and we need a star, this is all hypothetical of course because our GM won' take a swing that big and you guys will apparently never deal marner.

I'd assume that's projecting Gunler to slide to 27, which is possible and then Weisblatt with the 2nd? I'd love taking both of those guys, Gunler is a high upside dart throw and Weisblatt seems like a high floor grinder/energy guy.

Little Bit of Toughness
The Ducks trade is very interesting... I don't mind trading down if Drysdale isn't there. Idk if we'd do it but I don't think the value is very far off. If Drysdale is gone you're likely looking at Manson and Rossi/Raymond/Perfetti vs Nylander and Perrault/Zary/Mercer. Best case someone like Quinn or Jarvis slide to 15.

Completely agree, I'd be willing to give up Steel. Thought Rico was a better fit for WPG and maybe a little more valuable. Thought they're trying to contend and trade Laine as more of a 'hockey trade' than a shift to a rebuild.

Laine
Without an extension in place, I feel like his value isn't that far off from Kessel when he was traded to Pittsburgh. Kessel got a late 1st and Kapanen. Laine is a bit better so I feel a 2C, B+ prospect, and moving 4 spots up at the top of a good draft is pretty fair. If we don't swap picks I'd probably do the Boston 1st or our 2nd and another prospect (or like Heinien/Milano) in addition to rico and one of the LW kids (Jones/Comtois). 6 OA is near untouchable for us, we don't get many opportunities for top talent, hence why I think we should trade depth for a superstar like Laine, to pair with 6 OA and Zegras as the next core.

I think I would draft Raymond before Holtz, but I think the ducks need a guy like Holtz more than a guy like Raymond. Personally, I think if Drysdale is gone at 6 I have no problem trading down to around 10 or so.

Big fan of both Weisblatt and Mysak. Raymond kinda scares me with his struggles against men this year, but then you look at his international play and he's an absolute stud. Seems like we really like/heavily scout Sweden so I think I'd ultimately trust our guys to make the right call on him. Could see him really falling though, found it interesting CS had Holtz ranked ahead of him.

Pietrangelo test
I'd have no problem giving Pietro that deal, think he's 100 percent worth it. The problem is we desperately need a legit goal scorer(s). I think even with Pietro I'm not sure this team is better than a wildcard for the first few years. We'd need to either 1) hope Zegras and 6 OA come along very quickly or 2) put a package together for Laine or someone to make a real run at contention. Even then, I'm not sure if that's the responsible way to build this thing up. I'd respect the hell out of taking big swings like that though, its what Burke did and it broke right and won us a cup. Bob did/does things more conservatively which gave us 6 years of legit contention but ultimately nothing but division banners to show for it.

Why? Give our rebuild 2 years and I think we should at minimum be competing for a playoff spot. Zegras and 6 OA is a good start and we have a lot of money coming off the books in a flat cap and expansion environment. The kids can't be any worse than this year... I really think we could be good in 21-22.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bunzy1034</b></div><div>Would you do 6OA and Steel for Laine and 10, maybe finalizing a trade from that starting point?</div></div>
I think would depending on two factors: 1) Drysdale isn't available at 6, my thinking is you guys trade up for a C (Rossi or Perfetti) and we trade down for a scoring winger (Quinn, Jarvis, or maybe Holtz) and then 2) Laine signs long term. If Drysdale is gone and Laine wants to stay in Anaheim long term, then I'm in for something built around that package. I was trying to find a trade equivalent for Laine and the best I could think of was Kessel, who was dealt for essentially Kapanen and a late 1st. Steel and moving up four spots seems around that value to me.

I like Hamilton but for whatever reason he doesn't seem to last long wherever he's at. Could definitely use an offensive RHD or really just a good RHD in general. Was just curious would love to get a legit goal scorer (if we don't draft or stumble our way into one by then).

Right, but the expansion draft means more guys will be available than usual. Any other expected big FAs besides Hamilton around that time?

I like the idea of trading down from 6 to 10 as part of a package for Laine. Not sure if I'd do the offer currently listed, probably close to fair value just a lot going on. I thought about something like 6 OA, Rico (or one of the C prospects) and either one of the LD young guys for 10 OA and Laine. Not sure if that's enough but that's where I'd start.

I think we're set up to be pretty good after the Seattle expansion. Between the flat cap and expansion draft we've got some opportunities to bring in some real talent from teams in cap hell or looking to trade guys who would go to Seattle. We'll have a ton of cap space and hopefully Zegras/Tracey/6 OA/27 OA start to bubble up and contribute at the NHL level. The Vegas expansion kinda ended our run, maybe the Seattle expansion starts the next one.

Upgrading the Ducks
I wouldn't do the Cole deal. Really think some sort of package built around trading down from 6 to 10 for Laine makes a ton of sense for us. Not sure if WPG prefers a young C (Steel, Lundestrom, Groulx) or Rico, but it could make sense for both sides. WPG could also draft Rossi or Perfetti at 6, we could get Quinn, Jarvis, or maybe even Holtz at 10.
