Why on earth would the Canucks give up assets for Chiarot when they can just re-sign Zadorov who is a way better player, will be a similar contract, doesn't cost a pick, has already shown to be a great fit chemistry wise, and on top of all that, has been an absolute fan favourite pretty much since the day he got here.

Shake up
Value isn't terrible in the Vancouver trade, but value aside the pieces we're giving up are too important to the team. Podkolzin's cheap contract is a big asset for a cap strapped team in Vancouver who will ask him to step up and produce in a top 9 role, similar to what Hoglander has done this year. Soucy is one of our only NHL d-men under contract for next year, and he's a solid 3rd pair guy that can play up to the 2nd pair and has fit well, and Juulsen is a local product and cheap 7th D who has actually played really well this season. Just don't see the value in Vancouver giving up 3 useful pieces for a 34 year old pending UFA.

RHD will cost alot--Marner to VAN--JT on LTIR
Canucks won't be interested in Marner at all. He's a great player, but they don't have the cap space to afford his contract. Boeser for Marner doesn't make any sense, yes Marner is an upgrade but not nearly a big enough one to consider paying nearly double the salary for him over Boeser.

Canucks decline. They won't move Pettersson, but if they did, it would have to be something involving Dahlin. Power wouldn't get the conversation started.

Unrealistic
Canucks decline. Hronek for Marner doesn't make sense from Vancouver's perspective. It fills the hole in the top 6, but puts Vancouver in a terrible cap position where they'd be losing multiple other key players, and it would leave them with no depth and a massive hole on the defence. It basically puts them back in the same position they were a few years ago, great top end forwards but no depth and terrible defence behind Hughes. If the Canucks move Hronek, it's because he's demanding too much money, in which case they'd move him for a top 4 RHD who will be cheaper to save them the cap so they have the space to keep guys like Joshua and Zadorov around.

Doubt Vancouver would be interested in Couturier. His age and contract combination doesn’t fit the mold of the team they’re trying to build, I think they’d rather keep Garland who’s been amazing this year than take on the unnecessary risk of Couturier.

Cernak Trades
Canucks decline. Hronek is way more valuable than Cernak, and Jeannot is barely an upgrade, if even one at all over Di Giuseppe. Di Giuseppe’s contract makes him more valuable to Vancouver than Jeannot, and Hronek is a better player than Cernak. Deal doesn’t make any sense from their perspective.

2025 Maple Leafs
Canucks decline. Miller has more value to us than Nylander, Nylander may have the edge offensively but Miller is a far more complete player and his leadership is a major part of the Canucks success. Wouldn't swap Miller straight up for Nylander, and definitely wouldn't give up 2 1sts+ for Tavares and McCabe. This deal also puts Vancouver in a terrible cap situation where they'd be forced to lose Hronek plus all their depth, which would put them in the same situation they were a few years back with an amazing top 6 and absolutely no depth to support it.

Blow it up as much as we can
Hoglander isn’t available. With their current cap crunch, the Canucks are going to rely heavily on him to be a top 6 producer next year at an insanely cheap cap hit. Trading him for a much older player who we can’t afford doesn’t make any sense at all.

This years Kevin Fiala
Canucks are in a weird spot with Hronek. He's been great for us and has shown amazing chemistry with Hughes, and I think the Canucks should do everything they can to keep him. He fills a major hole on the right side of the top 4 that we've had for years, and has played his role to perfection. On the other hand, if the rumours of his wanting $8M+ are true and he's not willing to budge, I simply don't think the Canucks can afford to keep him with the cap crunch they are going to be under this offseason. With a ton of important UFA's due for raises (Lindholm, Blueger, Joshua, Lafferty, Zadorov), they're going to struggle to keep everyone together as is, and if Hronek wants $8M plus they'd probably have to look at moving him and brining in a different top 4 RHD to keep a more competitive team all around (Example: Canucks could put $8M towards Hronek and maybe only have $1M left for Joshua and have to let him walk, or they could move Hronek and look at someone like Montour or Pesce for $7M, leaving them with $2M which could be enough to keep Joshua around as well). Personally, I think the Canucks will be able to talk Hronek down and get something worked out in the end (my prediction is $7.25M x 7). People were talking about Pettersson as an absolute at $12.5M+, and he's making $1M less then that. I think there will definitely be rumours about Hronek that heat up in the offseason like Petey at the deadline, possibly as a tactic to try and bring his price down. Right now I'd be pretty surprised if he ended up being dealt this offseason, but I also do think it is a possibility that shouldn't be ruled out if negotiations don't go as planned.

2025-26 Playoffs
Canucks decline. No interest in Matheson, we already have two players who fill the same role but are better and younger in Hughes and Hronek. Matheson produces well because he gets top ice time and PP time in Montreal, in Vancouver he'd be 2nd/3rd pair with zero special teams time, which would cause him to fall off massively and not produce nearly as much. There's also the history with Pettersson, so a pretty easy no to Matheson ever wearing a Canucks jersey just based off of that, let alone the fact that he isn't a fit for this team in the slightest.

A Hronek-Marner swap doesn’t make sense for Vancouver. It fills the hole in the top 6, but makes a much bigger one on the defence while putting a cap strapped team in an even worse cap situation. Also if that’s all it takes to sign Hronek then the Canucks will keep him, if he gets dealt he’s getting $8M+.

Ideal set up for next year
Don't think the Canucks would be interested in Faulk at all. In the end I think they'll talk some sense into Hronek and he'll resign (same as Petey where people were talking 12M+, then he took significantly less than expected). Assuming they did trade him, Faulk doesn't really fit the mold of the team. The new management group has been very clear since coming in that they're focused on acquiring younger talent who fit the timeline of their current core. In two and a half years, Rutherford and Allvin have only added two players on the wrong side of 30, Cole and DeSmith, and both were on 1 year deals to fill a major hole. Faulk, given his age and more importantly his term, just doesn't fit in with the clear vision management has for this team. I could maybe see them being interested if Faulk had one year, they didn't like any of the FA options or other trade market options, and the price was right, but I just don't think Faulk would fit in with the type of player Rutherford and Allvin have been looking to add to the Canucks core.

Hronek
Can’t see the Canucks being interested in that, it doesn’t fit their needs. I’d be hesitant to deal Boeser for Marner 1 for 1, let alone add a 1st and Hronek on top. Yes, Marner is an upgrade on Boeser, but he’s not enough of an upgrade to justify paying nearly twice the salary with Vancouver’s current cap situation. This deal would fill the need for a top 6 winger, but would leave a much bigger hole on the defence with only about $8M in cap space to sign 3 top 4 defencemen. With the current market, you’d be insanely lucky to get even 2 guys with that cap space, getting 3 isn’t even a possibility.

Can’t see the Canucks being interested in this. The deal would leave them with like $8M in cap space to sign 3 top 4 defencemen, they’d be lucky to even get two with that amount of money. The hole in the top 6 would be fixed, but it would make a much bigger hole on the defence.

If that’s all it takes to sign Hronek, then the Canucks will pay him that. If they move him, he’s getting $8M x 8 absolute bare minimum, might be closer to $8.5M even.

Canucks will give you Mikheyev alone for that package. Hronek won't get moved, but if he did, the Canucks wouldn't trade him for a package that isn't even worth half of what they gave up to get him, especially after he's had a career year no less.

You want a breakout winger closing in on 40 goals with a near PPG pace, and all you're willing to give up is a conditional 2nd and a 3rd pairing defenceman. Canucks will give you Mikheyev or maybe Garland for that offer. Boeser isn't available to begin with, but certainly not for such an underpay.
