If we get a 6 through 9 pick
If the Pit pick is 6-9 I'd take a serious look at this. Would have to be a draft day deal and a specific prospect would have to still be available.

Yeah STL wouldn't do that. Plenty of other options to upgrade their LHD with, without shipping off their 21 year old stud winger.

Next October with Rossi
If the defining feature to a player being X value is how many games they've played, JJ Moser would be worth the first overall pick this year.
Harris playing 100 games does not make his value equal to a 1st rounder. its what he's done in those games that would dictate that and his 100 games do not dictate that. Like at all.
WPG 1st + Harris might get you a 3-6 spots higher in the draft than the WPG pick assuming its anywhere between 26-32. Thinking it gets you top 10 is nonsensical. Not even if you had two top 20 picks would that move you into 3-7 range.

Listen any team would love to add a Celebrini but make no mistake about it, getting Celebrini this year would mean the Habs are officially done with the rebuild. I really hope they win it this year.

Strangely optimistic for the future of the Pens
Just floating an idea out there. Do you think Dubas and the Pens would entertain something like this:
MTL
Anderson
Barron
2024 1st WPG
2025 3rd VAN
2024 7th WSH (We know Dubas loves his 7ths so throwing one in here)
for
PIT
Smith Reilly
2024 2nd PHI

Thread:
Isles 2024-25
I think there definitely is a framework here with a ton of different players. I can see the Habs being interested in Pageau but just not at the expense of Dvorak only, essentially, on the basis of Dvorak being a pending UFA and Pageau still having an extra year after this. Lets be honest, both teams want these contracts off the books here. So the main goal for either team is getting the cap/roster flexibility more than the on ice product. So for any Dvorak for Pageau deal to work, I think the Habs would prefer to not take back extra skaters like Bolduc and Wahlstrom, probably add a different player than RHP who is a home grown player that I think means more to the Habs than elsewhere, so someone like Harris instead. Finally the Isles would need to add a pick. Maybe like a 2nd. That way Isles get a cheaper and less termed Pageau replacement and a young dman that can be part of their core. the Habs take on more term and cap at center but get a home town guy, a draft pick and reduce the roster size a little.
As for the other parts of the deal, I like Wahlstrom and Bolduc. Could very well be targets for the Habs in some form of other trade but I would say the biggest issue with the Habs right now is not cap space but rather roster size. They have too many waiver eligible players to the point of where they need to be the team giving away more players than they're taking on in any deals.

Ridiculous Fantasy Trade for Crosby and Letang

Habs are taking back an addition 88% of his cap essentially making his cap a wash, yes the Pens have to pay him for the next 3 years but they are freeing up an addition 4.85 mil to do so.</div></div>
Not gonna go further into this with you man. You can think whatever you want. I disagree so far in the other direction its not even worth discussing at this point. Hence the agree to disagree comment.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Add-on - something that is added to the trade that neither adds to or takes away from the overall package. This trade has equal value, whether Anderson is included or not, we aren't asking for anything in return and essentially the Pens are getting Anderson for positive cap, meaning they aren't paying more than they were to begin with. You all keep looking at this as if the Pens were having to pay assets or additional cap to take Anderson but they aren't the trade would be the same if he wasn't included but the Habs couldn't fit under the cap, therefore he is quite literally an add on to make the trade work from both sides</div></div>
Sweet god, if you think adding 5.5M in Anderson's contract for 3 more years neither adds nor subtracts from the total value, we'll just have to agree to disagree then. Nothing left to be say.

Ridiculous Fantasy Trade for Crosby and Letang
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Yes <strong>if</strong> you are trying to get value out of trading Anderson, then you need to retain, if you are trying to just dump his contract then you have to add assets. However when it's included in a package where the other team is gaining significant assets and cap space (around 4 mil) then his cap hit is negligible and nothing needs to be done. Tatar was viewed the same way when we got him from Vegas, do you think RyJo had value at his full cap hit? He was just added to the trade for the same reason Anderson is added to this one and in fact was waived as soon as the trade was completed.</div></div>
Those players, even in their worst seasons of their career to that point were producing more than Anderson is now, had less term/cap and were/are arguably more established and higher valued players than JA is now.
I've defended Anderson a lot on here these past years, a lot of the negativity was unwarranted because his fancy stats weren't pretty but this year is absolutely worst case scenario. He has zero value and adding him to any deal makes any value being received, lessened. If he had like 1 year maybe 2 left, then you could convince someone but as is, not a single chance. Even 2 years is pushing it.
Yes I understand adding a player to simply offset the caps a little but this is not it. Anderson isn't just an add on.

In a trade like this though his cap hit isn't even considered, similar to Tatar when we traded Patches. Mailloux, Beck and Barron are all high quality assets and two unprotected 2025 1sts is great value</div></div>
I can almost guarantee Anderson after the year he just had, has zero value without retention. If you retain like 40-50%, that's a different story as the main issue is his cap hit. Without retention? Nada. That isn't hyperbole, he is right now one of the worst contracts in the league.
Teams were willing to pay for him when he was still a 20 goal pace guy and the Habs could either retain a little or the other team could send back some offsetting cap. Now that his scoring has evaporated and his physicality and fighting is pretty much non existent also, he's absolutely, without a doubt, a cap dump at full cap hit.

Honestly I wouldn't be worried about them not being able to give him a fair contract, its not like his agent will be going for 6.3M off the bat. They're looking at probably the 4 range which is fair and Florida could easily do that with minimal changes to their roster. Lots of pending UFA's that are not going to resign. They have cap space.

Value on the Barron trade is probably fair but the Habs aren't a team looking for more prospect depth and picks. They'd probably want to use Barron as part in a bigger trade to get an established higher end asset.

I don't think Lundell would be enticed enough to leave the powerhouse team for a perennial lottery team frankly. Unless he's being snubbed on ice time and being lowballed on his next offer, Im pretty sure he'll take less now to make more later and play in more important games. Its not like he'll get #1 center minutes in MTL. Heck he may not even get 2nd line center minutes depending on how well Dach plays.
If Bergevin taught us anything is that its that OS have to make sense and this one doesn't IMO.

Honest Thoughts
I don't see the point exactly. EDM's issue is not finding a good goalie to replace Campbell. Its cap space. They have their goalie they've hitched too now in Skinner and Pickard is at least doing an admirable job as backup.
EDM's need is cap space and their best option is a Campbell buyout. Not double down on a high risk/reward when they have the position solidified enough to be a contender already.
CLB would make <em>some</em> sense hoping for a hail mary that Campbell comes back to form but even if he didn't, they're at the very least getting some cap relief and can simply buy out Campbell for a cheaper cap penalty also. Small gains here but gains none the less.
I think CLB and EDM are destined to either BO both guys. I know cap penalties seem like poor asset management but sometimes you got to bite the bullet. Sometimes buyouts are justified and the right thing to do. EDM should absolutely buyout Campbell. CLB should only buy out Elvis if they find a better option. If not they're better suited to keep him in the hopes of him finding his game again. They do need someone to play goalie. Might as well be the guy they're paying out the nose to.

Honestly, it would make more sense simply to buy Gallagher out. The loss of positive assets, the retention slot for 3 more years and the dead cap outweigh the extra 3 years of dead cap from a buy out IMO.

Massive trade at the Draft
I think trading up at a premium anywhere between and within 2nd and 10th, is a bad idea. You are not necessarily getting the better player here, simply getting a guy you like <em>better.</em> IMHO That's a bad move from the get go. if the cost was somewhat cheap, then fine but not at a premium.

Yeah and Im assuming there is no protection on the pick which makes it an easy decline. They'd have to know better where that lands for this type of deal to even be considered. Just for fun though, if we had a crystal ball and that pick was 100% the 32nd OV pick, i think that is probably a fair price then. Less than 30th though, probably too high then.

Wadejos123s Interesting Proposal
I wouldn't do it. I would much rather take BPA and if that is a dman, trade a lesser dman prospect in the system for offensive help if necessary.
People need to realize the Habs may not even have a true #1 D prospect in the system right now. Hutson due to his size is more than likely a very good #3-4 at best. Reinbacher's offensive game is a mystery which probably means he's #2 at best. Guhle, Mailloux, solid but no superstars there. Etc etc....
If the Habs have the chance to grab a future #1 calibre dman in this draft, they should absolutely do it. Simply trade 1 of Guhle or Huston or Reinbacher, etc etc for offensive help instead.
I like Lindstrom as much as the next guy but he's not elite enough to be sacrificing a ton simply to get a chance to see if he becomes a star. He could end up being a solid 50-60 point forward also. Imagine if then the dman like Parekh is a 70-80 point scorer? Kind of defeats the purpose of trading up for Lindstrom....
The value of the deal is probably fair though. I just wouldn't do it in this draft. IMHO Picks 2-10 are all evenly talented and could each be studs in their own right.

Got to think the Habs would accept this just on the premise of good value and the team already having a surplus of young dmen.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habs_need_Scoring</b></div><div>if i'm the flyers i'm looking at offering a 2nd with a 5th or 6th for barron instead of losing a 1st. I sort of agree on the value standpoint but also think you may be judging him a bit harshly too. Its not every day that a team has like 4-5 under 23 yo NHL ready dmen all competing for the last couple spots on a team. He's showed he's more than capable at the NHL but ppl have to be reminded that he is also still young too. He's susceptible to brain farts but most 22 yo dmen are. I think we judge him harsher simply based on the fact we have a plethora of other options. That doesn't mean he wouldn't be an everyday dman on another team with less depth. Habs have an abnormal amount of young depth at this level that they can afford to not be as patient.

UFA frenzy dilemma
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>It might be time to accept that Dach isn't going to be a center but instead a big winger and bring in a 2C like Lindholm.</div></div>
How does his limited playing time this season show that exactly? In the limited time he had to show he was a center this year and last, he's been great..... I think making a judgement call now does make any sense. If its simply based on his injury history, well that's where a really good 3C is absolutely necessary. Either way, that certainly hasn't decided anything about his effectiveness at center. Habs aren't contending so they'll follow the process with him at center to its conclusion which isn't after like 30 games at center on the team.
With that said, I'd be ok adding Lindholm as a safety net who also can either play the center if Dach falters or the wing if he doesn't. Never hurts to have two centers on the same line IMHO.
