A kurashev trade from my perspecitve

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2024-25 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 20, 2024
Published: Mar. 20, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lets say you want to capitalize on the career year that Kurashev is having right now. My preference would be to keep him for depth and to help develop the next waive of hawks which he could be apart of. However, its been discussed that maybe the hawks rebuild could be better served by trading him while his value is high. Here is my view on what that looks like.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. 2024 1st round pick (CAR)
  2. 2025 1st round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Carolina is suggested because Kurashev is a cost-controlled asset, not a rental, and they love to exploit draft inefficiencies with late round picks. They are not as aggressive as Tampa, so take this suggestion with pinch of salt. Really any team works.

Carolina or any other team is welcome to include a cap dump or contracts here.
CAR
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (CHI)
  2. 2026 3rd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Kurashev (2,250,000 x 1YL) RFA (arb.) currently 24 years old with 44 in 66GP.
2.
CHI
  1. Zegras, Trevor
Additional Details:
Trade number 2, package Kurashev and picks to upgrade for a premium asset.

I dont know if this is enough, but I do know ANA does not need LD and that is our greatest prospect surplus.
ANA
  1. 2025 1st round pick (TOR)
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Kurashev (2,250,000 x 1YL) RFA (arb.) currently 24 years old with 44 in 66GP.

2025 2nd round pick can become Chicagos own 2nd round pick if Zegras plays in X number of games.
3.
CHI
  1. Sillinger, Cole [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Trade number 3: Purely hockey trade. I dont know if its good/bad but another option to move Kurashev is a purely hockey trade that makes sense for the hawks.

You're in disneyland if you think Kurashev is worth this much. On ANY other team, he's not getting the ice time or quality of linemates he is in Chicago. Playing 20 minutes a night with Bedard will help point totals no problem, look at Granlund in San Jose, look in the past at guys like Dzingel, hell look at Vatrano in Anaheim. Kurashev is good, he's fine. 2 1sts, Zegras and Sillinger is DRASTICALLY overvaluing this player.

Yes, I am aware that this is the most likely reaction from someone who is unfamiliar with the player and vaguely familiar with Chicago's circumstances. This post is in response to a discussion regarding trading kurashev that took place in another ACGM. As my description states I am against trading him and the values are somewhat reflective of that.

This isn't a case of the values being against trading him, with respect, getting a 1st for Kurashev right now would be impressive. He's good, he's fine you can be against trading him. I'm against the Canes trading Necas. That doesn't mean I'd expect three times his value in response. And I'm familiar enough with Kurashev to suggest, while he's been good, this is completely nuts.

I'd think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone outside of CHI valuing Kurashev like this.

Regardless, I would think teams would need at the very least another year of repeated success to at least stay at the negotiating table for something like this.

I'm all for moving Kurashev if his value is anywhere near this high. As long as there's a solid plan in place to fill his spot on Bedard's RW with someone better. And that isn't Nazar or anyone else currently in the Hawks system. For the record, I don't think Kurashev gets two 1st's or a player like Zegras. And I wouldn't swap him for Sillinger.

To be fair, Sillinger is vastly overrated, as well. But yeah, two 1sts for Kurashev is "I'll have what he's smoking" any way you slice it.

ANA is further in the rebuild and Verbeek has outright said he wants to turn the corner next year with this team. I don’t see the benefit in downgrading from Zegras for late 1sts and 2nds. I’d for sure pass, but kudos and thank you for not throwing in a LHD. Even though it’s a no from my pov, it’s well thought out and original 👍

Excellent idea and post, KFC. Certainly helps to get a read on Kurashev's value. Thanks for doing this. Takes two to tango, for sure!

Bottom line, IMO... Now (after this season) is the time to get the most value for him in trade, IF there's compelling value in return. Maybe it's there; maybe not. He's a useful, versatile, cost-controlled, relatively young player probably more valuable to a contending team up against the cap struggling to round out their roster. What that translates to in trade we may (or may not if it doesn't happen) know soon.

Cheers

Sillinger has bounced back from his dreadful sophomore year big time. He's not back to the levels he was at his rookie year (where he was stapled to Jakob Voracek), but he's at this point an established, respectable 3C. As the team shapes up around him, we're content with that. I don't think there's much stomach to move him, especially not for an obvious downgrade.

Kurashev isn't established or stable enough for him to be a desirable target for the Jackets, and we sure as hell aren't going to buy high.

Easy pass from all teams. Your value is way off for him, you need to lower your expectations.
