Capfriendly, where a 33 year old guy making 11.5 million for several more seasons is worth more than a 26 year old Selke finalist 100 point winger. Yup that makes sense

Simple

Last summer, a lot of us felt a good bounce back season for Zucker was coming. I am getting a similar feeling with Rust this summer. I think he has a good season and you keep him in the top-six. If Rust disappoints up to December with no signs of improvement, then I would throw him on the third line.
I do though, see Rust as a third line player for the Penguins eventually. Just don't think it will be this year.

Also the younger player of the two, dude's been an absolute monster these playoffs

Also I probably take that Detroit deal. With the retention it makes it plausible.

My top choice is to rebuild, for sure. I'm not entirely opposed to trying to contend, but 1 year max. And I think we almost have to trade Guentzel this summer regardless. But if I had my choice I'd just go for full blown rebuild.

If my team was the 2nd youngest in NHL, youngest in playoffs, youngest to 2nd round in many years…with a ton of cap space…no. I would not.
If my team was on the earlier side of a mult-year rebuild…I probably would (but would ask for Filmon over Sharangovich).

I know but we should imo, we should have kept them 3-4-5 years ago but now we don't have time to develop them. hopefully pickering will be an impactful player before the big guns retire.
it would be a bit more then marino, I think Lindberg has solid starter potential, but anyway YES ahah
also why not retain on a deal that is finishing? it gets you more back

Only reason I’d consider an impact winger would be so we can drop zucker or rust or the new winger to the third line to help it out…. But your point is valid and most likely the same opinion as hextall…

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CHUG</b></div><div>Why do we need what will be a mid to late first rounder, when by the time that pick is ready, the pens are gonna be in a rebuild anyway? The prospect can be changed to like Hallander or something, not a huge deal. A 1st, 3rd and relatively young player with some potential seem like an okay package for a rental that is -23 on the year.</div></div>
Oi vey... the Blues laugh that offer away, and Hallander ain't gonna change that. You have to offer stuff they actually want, not what you want to get rid of.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>xercuses</b></div><div>Opens a place for Wright and honestly kappenen being a righty doesn’t hurt</div></div>
I don't think Seattle is going to trade away their first line center (even if he's not their most productive one) just to open a spot for Wright, at least not right now when the team is rolling. Maybe they could explore trading a center in the offseason but during this season, when Wright is in and out of the lineup and currently away with Team Canada, such a shakeup isn't warranted.
