I’d love to keep Necas but with our d-situation next year, I don’t see us dealing Morrow and he’s probably what St. Louis asks for to start off. Ideally, we keep both Morrow and Necas, so the package would include a 2024 1st + Jackson Blake + another prospect or pick for Buch 50% retained

Hes a top 5LW in NHL and it is a sellers market. I don't think he has any lack of leverage whatsoever. Especially with teams like VGK that suddenly have all the cap space in the world</div></div>

Forgot about Reilly Smith (and maybe Rakell and Marcus Pettersson) but name a couple more. Malkin, Crosby, Rust, Letang (and Karlsson to an extent) aren’t going anywhere and Graves, POJ, your entire bottom six have minimal return value. Guentzel is the main piece you have to give yourself a youth injection right now and re-signing him doesn’t strike me as a rational move that Dubas is leaning towards (not to mention, Guentzel already said he wants to test the market regardless).

I can definitely see Morrow included in this deal with Blake but Nikishin is essentially untouchable. If Drury were to be replaced in this trade, Necas would be the most I’d give in terms of “young NHLer” and even that would be counterintuitive. I get that it comes with an extension but the Penguins don’t have too much leverage in terms of negotiations; the chance that he extends with PIT during an offseason where the cap goes up by $4m-$5m is unlikely and I don’t think Dubas loves the idea of getting nothing back for his only tradable asset right now.

What about Liljegren then? He was incredibly effective on both ends of the ice this season (again, albeit facing replacement-level competition). Unless you trade Holl or Muzzin, there’s literally no cap space available to be utilized to both retain Sandin’s services and give Liljegren the roster spot he rightfully deserves.

He’s definitely ready for it but as of right now, they don’t have the cap space to work on a bridge deal or a long-term one. The best way to get the money would be to trade Muzzin which would kill two birds with one stone. The problem is whether or not he’ll waive his NTC. And I don’t think trading Nylander is a viable solution either.

Of course but Sandin is still very young and displayed there’s a lot of promise and skill to work with in the previous season. When Skjei’s deal comes off the books in two years, Sandin will have the chance to fill his shoes while someone like Seeley or Fensore get the 3D spot if they aren’t a part of other deals.

Hypothetical Scenario - Discussion over Trade Values
I would think Tanev is probably the first one to be moved in this situation due to his relatively high market value and low likelihood of being involved in the long-term picture for the franchise. He's been one of the most efficient defensive defensemen in the last two seasons on a team-friendly rate for his services, can play top-pairing minutes, on a reasonable deal for the next two years after this season, and his right-shot status would boost his trade value. The return would probably be a 1st rounder and a C-level prospect or a couple of mid-round picks attached to a B-level prospect to a team in need of a second pairing or first pairing d-man like the Flyers (has the prospect pool to make the former work and the only RHD they have under contract for next season on their active roster concurrently is Ryan Ellis).

I was always a big fan of Lindholm in his tenure in the Triangle and I feel sympathetic towards him due to the previous management regime mishandling him and almost destroying his development. That being said, with how high his value is now, I think I would rather settle for someone like Rickard Rakell for a much lower price

No clue what this team will do
With Scheifele, PLD, Lowry, and Perfetti possibly being ready next season, I wouldn't see the Jets trading a 2nd rounder, even in a weak draft for someone who may not even slot into their bottom-six. There are much better options in FA

Ok, when I said the value was off on the Arizona trade, I meant that it's very unrealistic and far-fetched that the Coyotes would give up their best defenceman, a solid middle-six centerman, a serviceable bottom-sixer, and a top-15 pick for a rapidly declining Shea Weber on an albatross deal

Pens
While I do understand the thought process of the Pens trade, that's a definite no from the Penguins. I don't they would sell off a great middle sixer at a solid deal, a top-sixer on a down year, and a replacement level defenceman for another substandard defenseman, a late 2nd rounder in a weak draft, one of the worst players in the league, and an ok bottom-six option

Bennett has flourished in Florida and I highly doubt Zito would trade him for a measly mid-round pick in a weak draft while his value may be at an all-time high, especially considering what Florida gave up for him at the TDL

Weaponizing Draft Capital And Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Icehockey18121124</b></div><div>I am not sure why Boston would give up that much for Jordan Harris.
Pittsburgh Trading Rust for 2 2nds would be like Montreal trading Gallagher for 2 2nds but before this year when he still had 1 year left on his deal with an amazing Cap hit.
The 3rd to move Byron is probaly accurate.</div></div>
There has been some possibly overblown speculation that Jordan Harris may not sign an ELC with the Habs, leaving him to become a UFA next offseason. He's allegedly shown interest with the Bruins who currently need another sustainable option at LHD. I wouldn't think he gets the Fox package but possibly something similar (say, a mid-round pick or two).
Bryan Rust has been one of the most underrated Penguins in recent history but I didn't know his exact market value so I used an estimate/placeholder price of two 2nds. I'll probably change that to a first rounder this season.
