Probably trade the first line also, possibly pionk at the deadline, going to hurt, but need some ammo at the draft tables to bring the squad back faster. Would be nice to try to entice some top 15 picks this year.

If he doesn’t want to re-sign, so many contenders will be reaching out and bidding. Very intriguing to see where he goes, but for Detroit he doesn’t make sense. I’m sure SY would offer something, but not nearly what WIN would want or something that would win the bid battle against other teams.

Honestly should trade Connor too, cash your most valuable trade chips in and start over.
Would try to get rid of Wheeler but if there's no takers just move him along at the deadline or ride out the last year of his deal.

You probably got to offer up Connor also if your going this route, going to be rough and rough times ahead, but I believe it’s the best route also, possibly a new gm and some scouting Reno’s, but ya squad needs a new look and philosophy going forward. We are probably not going to see it though.

After around pick #20 the Jets draft record is pretty meh.
They really are at a point where they need to tear it down to the foundation and start over.

Buffalo may want to move up in the draft.
PHI 2023 2nd (39th OA) and BUF 2023 2nd (45th OA) for WIN 2023 1st (23rd OA).
That is a bit better than ANA and BOS 2023 seconds.

Two Big Moves
They would be big moves. But geez Jets lose big on that Severson deal. Horvat? I'd really like to see if he can continue his offensive wizardly this season before trading for him. One reason teams trade closer to TDL is to see if they are true contenders to give up good futures.

Two Big Moves
I actually like the moves. Although the way NJD are playing, I can’t see them moving anyone. BUT, considering that they’d have a Severson replacement (signed for an extra year) they may consider it. Severson is less useful to NJD with Hamilton/Marino and eventually Nemec.
The Horvat one is interesting. The price is steep, but there’s salary retention and Horvat is playing very well. I also like it as an insurance policy to try and have a window to extend Horvat and perhaps soften the blow of a loss of either PLD or Schief.
I see both values as relatively fair.

Analytics are ruining your brains
I can say unequivocally that the Avalanche skill players had a significant higher confidence level to do their job well and go hard knowing that we had Kurtis MacDermid on the roster and in the locker room. MacDermid played 0 minutes in the entire playoffs and during the regular season his average time on ice when he did play was under 8 minutes per game.
What impact did that have:
Captain Gabriel Landeskog didn't have to be the one standing up for his teammates when other teams would play too rough. He knew that Dermy would be deployed in the next game to take care of things so he could worry about just playing hockey.
There were some moments in the St. Louis series where it looked like Bednar would dress him to calm things down; but the rest of the team stayed focus on winning and not reacting. Then it happened again in Tampa Bay where Corey Perry and Pat Maroon did their best to agitate the Avs into forgetting their focus; but the team re-focused on finished the job. If they had lost focus then Bednar would have put MacDermid out and given them the breathing room not to deal with that stuff.
To a man, the entire Avalanche roster will tell you that what Dermy brings cannot be measured in any way; other than the end result: Winning the Cup. Which we did. If you just measured the one-the-ice performance of a single player like that you will always see that "he sucks" but the character and chemistry of a team is unique in hockey; just like coaching and ignoring those aspects isn't the fault of analytics but of fans/posters/commenters who misuse analytics as if it tells the whole story.

Give Bowness A Team He Would Want
I guess the one good thing about little change in the roster is we get to see the impact of a wholesale coaching change in (relative) isolation.
Separately, if there is a rebuild it won't be Chevy's decision because if Hellebuyck tells the Jets that he isn't interested in an extension next summer then the rebuild begins.

If jets lottery bound, might as well deal Schmidt if he waives, Dillon, and possibly demelo, depending on young rhd in return. Got to see where some of the moose are at. Would look at even selling ehlers and Connor if the right package is offered, maybe pionk, and helly too. Would love multiple first rounders in 23 draft and possibly similar in 24 and 25. Win the cup or win the lottery, don’t settle for anything in between lol

Could They Win The Cup
On the defensive and goaltending areas of the game, this team would be amazing. The offensive side is a little bit weaker than most contenders would be, so I would expect to see a lot of low scoring, 1 goal games (as long as it isn’t as bad as 2002 CAR vs. NJD series bad). The only true weakness this team has is its C core. Stephenson has played 1C in Vegas in between Patches and Stone and it worked out, but I’m not sure if he would keep his play up with Schwartz (probably would but there is still doubt). If there was a better option for a 1C, I would put them there and drop Stephenson to 3C and drop Howden entirely. But this team would go far one way or another. And that is a very fun looking second line. Provided this team can stay fully healthy, I wouldn’t be surprised if they would end up winning the cup.

It was a JOKE, dude. Didn't realize I was in the ACGM thread where people have no sense of humor. (Admittedly, it's harder to pick up on joking tones in writing, but come on-you really thought I was seriously accusing Treliving of throwing shade on Calgary by meeting Huberdeau in the place where Huberdeau lives?)
(BTW-yes, Guerin was the GM who met with Kaprizov)
