Do we have a chance for playoffs Next year
I honestly doubt it.
They could certainly make a move up the standings, but this doesn't take into account the fact that other teams in the Pacific are likely to make moves to try to improve as well.
Vegas-Still has a good feeder system, and they're very deep up front. Add another d-man and they become even better.
Oilers-Still relatively young, and have a solid foundation. Should have some room to add some depth if the cap jumps as expected.
Flames-Better than most give them credit for. Losing a couple of d-men in the summer, but have young talent in the minors to fill those holes.
Canucks-Already really good, imagine what they could do if they shed the Loui contract, and use that money to add.
Yotes-Probably poised to drop a bit unless they can keep Hall. Add a 2C in there, and they probably maintain.
Ducks-Lots of young talent developing, very similar to LA. Add a solid top 4 RD and they could be sneaky. Also, John Gibson=GOAT.
Sharks-If they're this bad right now, it's going to be tough for them to get much better. Lots of old guys, but Hertl/Meier will keep them afloat, but there's so much money invested in older guys, plus they have an overpaid starter signed long term that's a sieve.
I could see you jumping up and at least being competitive, but to say that they have a chance for the playoffs is a stretch. Do Walker and Roy regress? At least you have cap space to make an addition or two.

One move only Leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeytor15</b></div><div>Yes. Ask anybody from the leaf fanbase and ask if they wanna give up Kapanen for a low top 4 defenseman
I know he can hit and put up some points however he is not the greatest at defense. He is not enough to make an impact or to make the leafs say yes to giving up kapanen</div></div>
Apparently you don't watch much of Murphy because your assessment is clearly off. Muprhy is known for his defensive and physical game, not for putting up points. He's not a point producer on the Hawks, he's a stay back defender and being paired with some questionable defenders to keep the other guy in check. He's easily a top 3 on the Leafs and would be their best defensive defenseman. Same in Chicago this season. When paired with Keith and De Haan for the short duration those pairings were an amazing shut down pairing, but the other lines suffered so they paired up Murphy with guys like Koekko or Maatta.
Regarding Kap, let's be mindful he's on pace for 15 goals. He has speed and plays the forecheck, does okay on defense but he's still working to put his game together obviously and often over skates. He in no way shape or form is a lock down top winger. Murphy on the other hand is a more complete player in their respected roles.
And yes, go through the historic proposals Leafs fans have made for Murphy and there are at least a dozen made for Murphy and Kap by Leafs fans. Also a bunch, including in the last 24 hours, with Johnsson and Dermott for Murphy which Chicago wouldn't do as Dermott doesn't offer Chicago much.

85 M cap nothing crazy
I really hope Strome isn't going to be hard on that number. He hasn't earned $5M despite his ppg totals. He's a really good center, but he should know better than anyone...you can go to a terrible team and stunt your development. Stay with the Hawks. Take a smaller shorter contract and just continue to develop. The money will come if you develop. If you get greedy today, there will be smaller paychecks down the road.

Team to be named later
Call me bias all you want, but this is the easiest no for Toronto that they'll get. Nylander makes only slightly more than Saad and is younger, signed longer, and way better. An unproven rookie d-man doesn't make up for that when the Leafs are trying to win a cup. Leafs wouldn't make that deal start let alone adding in a conditional pick. de Haan is also useless in Toronto. Leafs have arguably 4 better left handed shots on defence and guys that are cheaper. Adding de Haan does nothing when they need a righty. Especially giving up Kapanen who has been one of the guys to step up and show some grit lately.
No chance Leafs even consider this.

Yea ok Draisaitl already has 102 points and is on pace for 50 goals for the 2nd season. Barkov isn’t even at a point per game or on pace for 30 goals.

Full Rebuild
Keith can get you more than a 2nd rounder... even next season at 37 he'll till be able to play 22 minutes per game, he can still put up 25 pts on a better team than Chicago, can play on the PK a lot while being a great mentor and leader. The guy (if you retain at least 1775 000$) can get you an early to mid 2nd rounder + a B prospect.

Retooling Next season
I agree this team isn't going to get to the playoffs it will be a bubble team at best, but I don't see how you can fully retool when Seabrook's contract hangs like an albatross plus you have Shaw and Dehaan who are useful and good players who have been missing since Nov & Dec. It will be hard to move either with their cap and injury history which essentially gives you $15 million or 18% of the total cap in dead cap space you can't move. However, if they stay healthy they certainly improve the team in a significant manner. Dehaan gives you 3 legit top 4 defenseman.

2020-2021
This doesn't make sense. Not only is Keith worth his cap hit, but he's still easily a top 3 on most teams. Makes zero sense to trade him. Furthermore, you're on drugs if you think a rookie is going to step up in the league and play the #1 job. The reason Boqvist is playing on the 1st line is because of Keith not in spite of Keith. Lastly on this topic, Vancouver should be giving up a 2nd just to move Eriksson, so you have a 1st for Keith and Kampf...bad deal. Kampf is $1M a year and will be a RFA. He's great on the PK and an awesome cost controlled 4th liner. I wouldn't trade Keith for anything less then a 1st and even then I'd rather see him play out his contract and sure as hell wouldn't trade Kampf for anything less then a 3rd.
Crow also isn't accepting a $3M deal...mark my words, he will take nothing under $4M and probably signs for $5M for 2 years.
You are giving away Nylander and Shaw. Shaw is worth a 3rd or 4th at worst. Nylander is worth a 3rd or 4th.
Kubs probably will get slightly more as well as Strome.
Maatta has been valuable as a 3rd liner and Beaudin likely won't be ready yet. I could see Seeler, Gilbert or Carlsson stepping into the 3rd line duty role, but again, Maatta is better then all of them despite his cap hit being disproportionately higher.

Listening to offers before/during negotiations with Free Agents just makes sense. I'm not saying we should trade him, I'd like to see a 1 or 2 yr bridge deal, but imagine moving him for two 2nd round picks.
That would be a return of FOUR 2nd round picks... for Ryan Dzingel. Daaaaaaaamn.

Well since you asked: Trading Thornton opened up the door in adding Chara/Savard (Arguably the greatest July 1 in history) Chara is a cup winner and completely changed the culture in the Bruins locker room and beat the crap out of anybody who tried taking liberties on any one of his teammates. Seguin was on the cup team and while I wish the Bruins had him I wouldn't pay him 10 per. Pay Seguin 10 or have Marchand and Pastrnak for 12.6??
Do you see where i'm going with this? Sabres mistake was giving Skinner 9 per. Reinhart is a RFA this summer... whats he ask for?? all this while not making the playoffs since Jesus walked the Earth.

If we need to Lose Ovechkin
He will never play a game for an NHL team that isn't the Washington Capitals. He's said multiple times he wants to play his whole career here, and he's already dropped hints about a 4 year extension to line up with Backstrom's new contract. He's not going anywhere, and hopefully breaks Gretzky's record for us.
